Not certifying after February???
I went down to Dowling to register to start the certification process for Children with Disabilities (1-6) and (B-2). The guy told me that unless you have everything done by February, you can't get certified. I cannot find ANYTHING on this. And I'm extremely angry because I called them on Thursday to figure out how to apply for certification using individual pathway and no one told me. Only AFTER I drop $200 to NYS do I find this out!
Does anyone know the specifics of this? All I want to do is work with children and I keep hitting brick walls.

Re: Not certifying after February???
The state certifies twice a year in Feb and Sept. All your paperwork and classes has to be done and sent in before then. Is this what you mean?

Re: Not certifying after February???
That wouldn't make sense though, because wouldn't I just get certified in September?
The guy was an admissions counselor and told me that New York State isn't certifying anyone past February. So if you didn't have everything done by February you weren't able to be certified. He wouldn't even register me for classes.

Re: Not certifying after February???
Were you able to take classes through them? My certification is being done through eastern Suffolk boxes but I was enrolling at Dowling non-matriculated to take the classes I need towards certification. I'm going to give BOCES a call tomorrow.

the only case I can think of would be if they are changing the license so it'll be different in September.
Would you be done with all your classes by Feb?
ETA it also sounds like this guy doesn't really know what he's talking about IMO

No. 3 classes, an autism workshop and the CST. Just starting this semester. The guy seemed offended that I was upset about it too. I wasn't mean but I was really surprised. I'll see what BOCES says tomorrow.

Then you wouldn't be able to be certified until Sept. Many he said it wrong and he meant he can't help u certify for Feb. I would think they wouldn't process paperwork for Sept 2011 until after Feb.
Good Luck I hope BOCES can help you out more.

well you cant apply for certification until everything is completed. you still have 3 classes, a workshop and a test to take. you cant apply unless you have these things done. im not sure what you were trying to do

Based on what you wrote here, I think he's saying that unless YOU somehow finish ALL your classes by February, you can't get certified. I don't think he was talking about EVERYONE (as in a new rule), but about your specific case.
That's what it seems like to me anyway.

I was trying to enroll non-matriculated to take the classes that I needed. All I wanted to do was take the classes, which I would have to send to BOCES upon completion, which they would then send me my certification once I completed all of the above. I couldn't even enroll for the classes.

Which confused me because I was on the phone with their certification department a few days before and she walked me through the entire process, not mentioning anything about any stipulations.
It's just so frustrating.
