It's also kind of pervy, like asking to see someone's boob.
that's why I laugh when people ask me to explain why my son isn't circumsized.
how does it not register that you are most likely also asking me the status of my husband's penis
you should see the looks I get when I answer.

Re: Are you breast feeding?
I don't see anything wrong with asking someone you are close with that questions. HOWEVER... i think it is aweful to judge, comment, yell at someone for their decision. a now ex-friend called me a disgrace to humanity and a selfish digusting human being because I think i would prefer not to. She actually screamed that at me in a restaurant with other friends, and other patrons heard. RUDE

Re: Are you breast feeding?
I only speak to people about with whom I feel comfortable asking. And when we do get on this topic, its's jsut informational to me, never a topic where I would judge someone. I don't breastfreed, so how could I tell someone they are wrong?

I wouldn't ask someone directly...
Sometimes I find out indirectly...

I sometimes ask moms that I am friendly with or 1st time pregnant moms...mainly because if they are I want them to know I am an open book and can try and help if needed.
And also, I am warning them...because my boob will probably be out within the hour.
But I never ever preach or anything. I don't pry. I have heard it all though. who has inverted nipples, who has the husband who isn't comfortable sharing, who is on meds...so many reasons...I feel like people are in confession once i slip my hooter hider on.
THIS. exactly.
I don't ask strangers or aquaintances- because I don't care and it's NOMB. But with close friends, family and even some coworkers I'm close to, I ask. Not to pressure them but to let them know that if they plan to that I am completely available if they have any questions or need support.
Having my sister and close friend as my cheerleaders is what got me through those initial first exhausting weeks of nursing my firstborn. I'll always be indebted to them for getting me through with their BTDT advice.

Re: Are you breast feeding?
People at work used to ask me alllllll the time when I was pregnant and it creeped me out. Close friends and family didn't really bother me....but talking about my boobs at work seemed pervy. There was one woman I worked with who REALLY pushed breastfeeding on me when I was pregnant...even though she had never done it. I distanced myself from her whenever possible.
But it's true....it's amazing what people think they have a right to say to you just because you're pregnant. Some people get nicer....some people like to tell you how fat you've gotten on a daily basis.

Re: Are you breast feeding?
I cannot begin to even tell you how many times both while pregnant and after my DC's were born that completely RANDOM strangers (oddly enough, many while waiting on line at stores ) would just ask me this out of no-where....Not even other moms neccessarily but MEN !
In order it would be..."Oh, do you know what your having ??" and then BAM " Are you going to breast feed " ??
I would and HAVE never !

Re: Are you breast feeding?
I'm a lurking mom. I would never ask anyone this question & I HATE it when people ask me. If I don't tell you, don't ask about my breasts, thank you very much. But yeah, once you get preg, people think they can ask you anything at the dinner table .. like how much has your cervix dialted? Did you tear vaginally during birth? etc..

Re: Are you breast feeding?
I ask friends all the time...but its asked with 5,000 other questions i have for them bout what their plans are. I have never come across a friend whose been offended. I ve actually found that they enjoy talking bout the whole pregancy and after birth topics. But I would never ask a stranger or someone I barely know. Thats a bit awkward (in my opinion). And by no means to I judger anyone who BF's or FF's LOL who the heck cares? If the mother is happy with her decision thats all that should matter.

Re: Are you breast feeding?
I was asked this by strangers as well as non strangers. I find it the oddest question, to come from a 65 year old bank teller I am doing some banking with. As she taps her boob to ask me the question no less.
Ugh. Stop. No I dont want to discuss my boobs and what purpose they are serving for ME, with YOU.

Re: Are you breast feeding?
Hope you don't mind me crashing- but as a new mom- this was a regular discussion piece. Just like people ask if you had a vaginal birth or c-section.To be honest, when your pregnant- everything becomes a topic of discussion- down to your weight! I was never very sensitive about it - so it didn't bother me. Your body is not entirely yours anymore. I nursed DD- and after a few weeks- did it in public (covered up). I would pump in my office behind closed doors. For me, the view of my body changed. My boobs weren't sexual anymore- they were a resource to feed my child.
I know that I have asked my friends when they become new moms if they plan on nursing- but not with any judgment. To me, a happy mom = a happy baby. I loved nursing DD but some friends hated it, never wanted to try, did it for a while and then stopped. Whatever makes the mom happy is best for the baby.
