The recall stated "about 90,000" cribs are being recalled. Please how dumb do they think we are? This crib was being sold for nearly 10 YEARS I want them to define 'ABOUT'. Did they decide on 90,000 because it was below 100,000 and didn't sound assss bad.
Before my daughter's crib was recalled there were 84 prior complaints before I forced the recall.
This time they had """"171"""" complaints before they recalled it.
Bassett needs to stop. The factories in China have to be shut down. Quality control sucks. Care for the customer, none. Their products are time bombs waiting to kill.

What is wrong with these cribs? I have a crib from Restoration Hardware and it is manufactured by Bassett. I must say the crib is very well made.
Edited to say that I read the recent recall. It is for cribs that have EXTERNAL drop side hardware. My crib has internal hardware but I have never dropped the crib.

Re: BassettBaby does it again. They care more about $ than Babies.
I remember your posts from a long time ago.
I will say that out of all our baby gear we have had 3 MAJOR recalls of the stuff we bought. All companies did rectified the situation. I am sure it is of little comfort for those who had to suffer the damage 1st hand before recalls were made.
It's not just Bassett though.
- Fisher Price PNP recall: FP recalled because of possible collapse side rails. FP offered the full price of $100 on ALL PNP used or not.
- Dorel Crib recall: we had a drop side crib. The crib was recalled for possible suffocation death (which occured sadly!) by the panels potentially getting off the bottom track and babies head getting stuck there. And side slates breaking. Dorel sent me 2 full replacement side panels with complete new hardware to make the panel fixed.
Graco passage stroller: the canopy latch system had problems with amputation and laceration of baby's fingers. They rectified by sending a cover to cover the mechanism.
I am honestly shocked that we had so many recalls on some major brands. All different brands. All very popular items.
That's not even including the toy recall from China.

Maybe, hopefully, your a lucky one. My crib that was recalled was not a drop side crib. It was a convertable crib meanining , it could turn into a toodler then finally a full size bed.
If you look at my profile pic, you can see the hole drilled too close to the edge. After a year or so of my daughter being in it the wood split at the edge there. The bolt loosened. We were EXTREMELY lucky she didn't try to slip out. Her head could have easily but not the rest of her.
That is a toothpic seperateing the rails in that profile pic.

You have to understand the system to understand why they seem so willing to help after a recall.
All I can tell you is what I learned from my experience. A manufacturer is required by federal law to notify the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) within, I believe, 48 or 72 hours, when they receive a report that their product harmed or could be potentially harmful to the consumer.
When the consumer contacts the manufacturer of a broken bed, crib, toy, ect, they IMMEDIATELY tell you they will send a replacement part or whole new one. This is so the consumer stops in their tracks and doesn't ask any more questions.
BassettBaby pulled this whole routine on me. The VP Lex Bendall said he understood my concern he, “has grandchildren".
I started asking questions like, "Are you going to send anyone to come look at this crib. I think it's a serious problem?" He said no and he would send me a BRAND NEW ONE that HE would inspect himself.
They gamble, they count on the average consumer to have no knowledge of the CPSC and bet they take the replacement product and run. I sure didn’t know about the CPSC.
After my daughter’s crib failed and before I called Bassett, I did some quick research and found this:
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml80/80006.html
9 babies DIED in a Bassett made cribs in the 70 and 80s. The CPSC alleged Basset knew of the danger and didn’t come forth right away. It’s all in that link.
After I had brought this to the attention of the CPSC myself, Bassett was forced to take action as I am sure the same happened with the latest recall. This recall took 171 complaints about the crib to finally get recognized.
This is all on my MySpace I could go on and on.
If you’re interested here it is: http://www.myspace.com/wendybellisimobassett
Now their crib line is under a new name BassettBaby. They figured everyone forgot about those deaths so let’s make more cribs again.
A recall is no good if nobody hears about it.
