How do you cook deli meats so they are ok to eat?
Its the only thing I am craving!!! OMG its nuts. I have not had any deli meats but I am in the second trimester and need a least one hero!! lol
How do I go about cooking the deli meat for it to be safe enough to eat? I then have to put it in the fridge and have it cold though. Is that ok?
And what deli meats do you have to stay away from.
I want like a party hero like italian and american.
OMG I am so hungry right now LOL

all doc's seem to have a different opinion on what to eat not eat. most though say stay away from the more processed stuff like salami.
all I have really had is turkey breast and the way I cook it is to put it in water and microwave it. . basically the rule is it has to be heated to steaming. I just add the water bc i found otherwise it gets all dried out and nasty
I usually then just plop it right on a sandwich but I know people who do put it back in the fridge so it's actually cold. .

Re: How do you cook deli meats so they are ok to eat?
Since there aren't really reputable delis around here that keep their equipment clean (I mean, maybe they do, but I'm in the South -- it's not NY) my OB only approved me to eat commercially packaged deli meats like oscar meyer and stuff from the store. Nothing that has been sliced on a deli slicer (cheese nor meat).
I usually just eat the stuff from the package without heating it or anything. But I like to melt cheese on my sandwiches so I've been sticking it in the microwave for 30-45 seconds along with the turkey and it becomes like a turkey melt almost in that time.
I don't put it back in the fridge after though.
Why don't you just call the nurse at your OB's office and ask? I'm sure they can just tell you what they suggest you do, plus it's best if you follow your own doctor's rules.

for lunch i usually put a few slices in the micro for about 20 seconds. then i put the plate in the fridge while i make the rest of my lunch and make my sandwich last.

Re: How do you cook deli meats so they are ok to eat?
I have been dealing with this craving by having real meats for dinner vs the cold cut version for example - there is a place near where i live that has an amazing french dip sandwich made with london broil that i order med well so that fixes the roast beef craving.
for ham i pick up fresh cooked ham from Whole Foods (they currently have it with a pomegranate citrus glaze - yummy!)
and for turkey i get roast turkey clubs from places where its sliced from a turkey turkey. I am not sure if this was 100% okay (but it tasted really good) but last week I got a roast turkey sandwich from Juniors because Juniors makes their own turkey in house. the lady there said that the roast turkey is the only one in house and that their other sandwiches are really cold cuts.

I was wondering this about Panera bread... they are like a high class deli in my opinion - it's kinda cold cuts though. thoughts?

I'd eat chicken there but I wouldn't get a turkey sandwich there unless it's heated like a turkey melt.

I only eat the heated stuff from panera. I wont eat any of their sandwiches that are like cold-cuts.

My ob said its fine , another thing that is personal choice. I wouldn't get deli meat from a dirty bodega , but then again I wouldn't eat that if I were not pregnant anyway
As PP stated, if you are concerned, microwave untill steaming.
