103 fever - HELP

DD is 8 mos old and has had a fever since last night. She started with a 100.3 fever and gave her some motrin. She woke up with 102.3 this morning and was coughing. We took her to the pediatrician and he said that it's viral so it just has to run its course. Her fever would go down throughout the day, but now she's got a 103 fever...

at what point do I bring her to the hospital?? it's her first fever and i'm so freaked out!!!

help!!!!

TIA

I know it can be scary...try giving some more motrin and a tempered (sp?) bath (a little warmer then room temp) that usually helps bring it down quick. If the fever continues throughout tom. I would have her checked again. Chat Icon Chat Icon Hope she feels better

Re: 103 fever - HELP

Def give her Motrin, that will help bring it down.

I don't recommend putting her in a bath. Many girls on here put their kids in a bath and the child had a febrile seizure. If anything take a warm washcloth and wipe her down.

You can alternate Motrin/Tylenol every three hours or so if the temp doesn't drop.

Re: 103 fever - HELP

I have been giving her motrin all day every 6 hours. During that last hour is when her fever starts raising again.

I know you are not supposed to put them in a cold bath, but i thought a warm bath was okay. We did that tonight for a few minutes...just thought that cooling her off and getting her clean might make her feel better, even if it didnt completely bring her temp down. I also put a cool washcloth on her head.

I'm so worried....

Re: 103 fever - HELP

Motrin works best. If after 4 hours it is going back up start alternating with Tylenol.

Fevers spike at night. I don't do baths but lukewarm compress on the forehead and back of the neck.
