House Facelift Suggestions

We bought this house last year and are starting to think about how we'd like to give it a facelift in the spring. We were thinking of repainting the bricks white but the cement base (the beige part) dark grey. Painting the shutters black with white trim and then maybe paint the vinyl siding a deep red. Id like to replace the door eventually but int the meantime maybe paint it red with black trim I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestion though. Thanks!

Re: House Facelift Suggestions

Definitely like the idea about painting the shutters and the door. You need more contrast. The white door and white shutters blend in too much.

Since all your plans for the spring involve paint, I would stick with what you mentioned, and let it sit for a while. You may be more than happy with just those changes. You don't want to do too much, then change your mind. I'd do a little at a time, and see how it looks. If, after you do what you mentioned, you still want to do more, you'll have a better idea of what will work and what won't.

I would pain the shutters red to match the siding and get a new door. I am not sure if you can paint vinyl siding...

I also am not sure vinyl siding can be painted. . .

But I agree that the shutters & door need some color. Black will look nice, but if you are going to paint the foundation gray, maybe paint them all dark gray?

Re: House Facelift Suggestions

Vinyl siding can definitely be painted, you just have to make sure you get paint specifically designed for it, since it has to flex and expand with the vinyl.

Sherwin-Williams Duration paint

Here's just one example. Sherwin Williams has a line of paint that is made for painting over vinyl siding. Other brands should have similar products.

Here is my suggestions. I love the color of your vinyl now because it matches the part of the brick that was not painted. So I would leave alone.

I would however paint the shutters dark gray but leave the part that looks like hinges black... I would paint the door the same gray.

I would repaint the brick white, freshen it up. I would paint the foundation a light gray...close in the family you choose for the shutters and door.

I would also take out the bushes and replant. I suggest dwarf cypress plants.

Below is going to be the worse rendition of what I am trying to say, but I tried lol.

What about flower boxes under the windows? I think that would look beautiful and add lots of color and texture to the house.

Re: House Facelift Suggestions

Wow , thanks for all the suggestions! I think when its yours you get really picky so its nice to hear some people dig the white. I think since it seems most people like the red siding we'll probably do that first and see what woud be the best way to go in the front. The grey shutters may be a good way to go! I always wanted to do flower boxes below the windows but the right window can't have one because it'll block the pathway to the door. Maybe I could do a flowerbox over the railing.

GoldenRod- I'll try out that paint!

Thanks everyone!
