NYC Teachers w/GHI & Empire and a c-section...
How much did it cost you out of pocket? I got something from Empire the other day that said $2500... Is this how much it's going to cost us?

NO. It will not cost that much. Its been a while for me and I don't really remember, but I could have never afforded that twice. You probably have a deductible that you will be responsible for. If you have an in -network doctor they try to use all in-network people there too...like the anesthesiologist who can be costly. If you are using an out of network doctor I would be sure to make it clear that you need in-network doctors and hopre for the best. I still think it should be less than 1000.
Above poster sounds about right.

I had an emergency c-section under general anesthesia... I wasn't in a position to ask for an in-network doctor.
If I have to have something adjusted on the bill, do I call Winthrop or the insurance company?

Call ur insurance company saying u were not informed about this dr out of network.
I had a baby in June..it cost me 50 for stepping foot in the hospital and then it cost 300 for our deductible. That is how much it should cost u

I'm not a teacher but have GHI and Empire (I'm NYPD) and it cost me $300 for my c-section and $300 for my DD. I would call Heathline (the number is on the back of the Empire card) and speak with them.

Chances are they gave you an in-network doc, but if not do not panic. It will cost more, however GHI pays something like 80% of the bill. I am pretty sure you can tell them you did not know. I would call tomorrow and ask them what you should do.
