they dont' need teeth to eat. give them whatever you feel comfortable with in small pieces. you know... john was eating everything at 8 months!! Puffs were started at 7 months.

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
my kids always seem to be behind in the eating dept. my DS is 7 months old, and just cut his 2 bottom teeth. I'll try puffs around 9 months old . he is only eating purred food and oatmeal now

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
They can start on puffs at 6 months - no teeth necessary. They dissolve fairly quickly. I give them to my DS too and he doesn't have any teeth yet. They gum them.
My DD didn't cut a tooth until she was 10 months old, but she was over baby food right about the same time - absolutely refused to eat it some days. I started to give her regular table food around that time. We just would puree it a bit in the food processor.

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
I wouldn't worry, babies should be fed at their own pace.
I started with puffs. I actually soaked them in a little bit of water first and fed him by hand. We worked up to puffs right out of the box, and now he picks them up himself. Its a great practice food and doesn't have much calories to fill them up, so they still have room for their bottles and better quality fruits and veggies. I buy Happy Baby puffs, made with whole grains and no sugar.
Mum Mums are great too, it teaches them how to bite and mash with their gums. They dissolved in a few seconds of being in saliva. I can't find them without sugar anywhere though.
Your looking for foods that you can mash with your fingers, if you can mash it with fingers, their gums could do it too. But some textures take getting used to and some babies need more time to practice chewing and mashing. So don't rush it, take their cue!

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
jack is almost 8 months and is still only really eating stage 2 jars. we havent started meat yet either.
he will eat mum mums and occasionally puffs or yogurt melts. we are in no rush, he seems to be having a hard time with texture so I dont want to push things.
you can try cherrios and puffs now! if they do well, take it from there. call you ped, they will give you suggestions as well!

Every child is different. We started giving DS table food around 6 months (small pieces). Certain foods he did okay with while others took him a while. Do what you feel is right for your child.

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
Kieran only has 2 teeth at 11 months and he eats a lot of finger foods. At 8 months, we started puffs, Cheerios (though be careful with Cheerios that they don't overstuff- they don't dissolve like puffs do!), and quarter slices of bananas. A few week later, I started giving him dices of ripe mango or cooked apples, etc. I would talk to you ped about it, and just try some things here and there to see how they do, and then if they're doing well, keep trying more things!

Besides puffs, you can also cut up some other soft foods to start like pancakes, waffles, meatballs, etc.

Think about it.. they don't get molars until 1 year...they eat with their gums..meat and all!! no need for teeth.

They don't need teeth to eat-their gums are strong.
DS is a year and still has no teeth but is on table food.

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
DD has no teeth, has started on puffs to learn texture.
DS had no teeth until he was 11, but was gumming cheeses, and various other foods.

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
DS is a week shy of 10 months old with only 2 teeth on the bottom and eats puffs like a champ, mum mums, loves mashed potatoes, pancakes, small pieces of cheese...He will basically eat ANYTHING I give him...he is starting to want to eat alot more table food rather than baby food, Im just nervous to keep giving it to him. Id too like to try new things, but dont' know what else to try. He has a bad gag reflex so he will puke if he doesnt like something or its a little too big for him

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
Colin was having pork chops with us for dinner at 7 months and he didn't get his first tooth until 11.5 months so I vote anything that's small enough once they master getting things down - test with puffs and cheerios.

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
hey de! I'd definitely try puffs now.... I would break them in half just to be safe - and make sure they aren't stale.
You can also try other soft foods like really ripe pear, banana or avocado cut up really small (like the size of their pinky nail). you can even try pastina or other small pastas
when they get used to more textures, start trying all different kinds of foods just cut up really tiny!

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
you only use front teeth to rip and tear, you use molars to mash, since babies don't have molars for a while, their gums are extra strong to perform that task. So just make sure the pieces are small enough that they don't need to tear them smaller and they should be fine.
DD is almost a year and only has her two bottom center teeth, she eats pretty much everything we eat.

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
my ped says puffs and cheerios at 6 months. My DD is 5 months and eats the puffs. They kinda melt in her mouth.
They don't need teeth to eat. The gum's work wonders like you wouldn't believe.
By 9 months DD#2 had 4 teeth and refused baby food and only ate table food.

Re: 8 months old and only 2 teeth. what can they eat?
DS cut his first tooth at 13.5 months old. He was completely on table food around 10 months old. Start with puffs, yogurt melts, freeze dried fruit and other things that can easily dissolve in their mouth. Once they get the hang of chewing, try small pieces of banana, avocado and other soft food. Cheese is another good thing to try.
