Both of my kids have mattresses that are more firm.

Cheap one from Bob's stores. DC can sleep anywhere, in any position, on any surface, including a pile of toys. I got a cheap mattress this time around, and when it wears out, DS will be old enough to have an opinion on what he wants.

I got a really cheap firm mattress from walmart. All her "big girl" furniture is from there. It looks nice and will hold up until she is old enough to have a real set.
