Snow Day all teachers
It's looking pretty good for a definite snow day tomorrow...timing looks perfect & there will be 35 mph winds besides.
A friend's teacher in E. Meadow told parents yesterday that tomorrow looks pretty good for being off & Thurs. may be questionable also if they can't plow the schoolyards, etc.
So excited, nothing like a mid-week snowday!
I just hope they call it ahead of time.
Looks like No. Shore will get hit the worst too.

there is no way long island teachers will have work tomorrow ... the storm is right on track to hit and with 12+ inches practically a sure thing, don't even bother setting your alarm.
City teachers .... who knows but I am banking on it. People are complaining about Bloomie but he gave us TWO snow days last year and one wasn't even warranted (the one he called at noon). I am sure he will call it either today or very early tomorrow and not wait until last minute like he did last year NOR call it too early (like he did last year) .

My district announced they are closing for tomorrow...we were told at 1pm. I'm thrilled, but I hope it is actually worth it.

Dh found ouy early this morning that they would close!!
If you use to many snow days they take away holiday days not tack on to end of the year right? We on a huge family vacation the day after school ends so that would be a problem.
I hope bloomturd does the right thing and closes!! A snow emergency is declared in NYC but he will make teachers drive in - jerk!

He should be fine. If you look at his district's calendar, they will put POSSIBLE UNUSED SNOWDAY, if they need to school will be open then! Oh..BTW I AGREE WITH EVERYING YOU SAID ABOUT BLOOMIE!

I wish we got back our unused snow days - since we do not - bring on the snow days!

My son is off. I'm waiting for my district to call it...all signs point that they will.
on a sidenote: my sister and BIL work in E Meadow and it's rare that they get a snow day, but I think they will.

i hate how he waits. literally hundreds of districts all around have called it in already. he says he wants everyone to stay off the roads, but then if he doesn't close school you have all these teachers and staff on the roads. and is it really safe to be operating school buses in a foot of snow? i wouldn't want my kid on a bus in the middle of a blizzard.
DH is calling in if Bloomie doesn't close. Half his kids don't come in on a good day; let alone in a foot of snow.

I agree and how about giving parents time to prepare alternative day care for their kids?
Our kids DO come, but most staff will not bc they live in LI...
Since I live fairly close I will have to get my butt there...but if I cant get my car on the road that's another story!

I find it interesting how they advise people to stay off the roads yet it's safe for children to come out to go to school
