Gel nails. Changed my life. I'm on my 3rd week and my nails look perfect.

How are your nails? Do you find they are softer and peel more?
My sis said the gel kind of ruined her nails.
But I am getting desperate!

I've heard this, but personally my nails are stronger! Probably because I'm not constantly f*ing with them anymore.

it may be because you are preggo too ;) your hair and nails always get stronger (at least mine did).Chat Icon

I get manicures every week and learned that putting lotion on my hands like 5 times a day helps. My Manicure lasts a week. No chipping!

Every other day after a mani I put on a nailtique top coat. My last manicure was on 1/1 and it didn't start chipping until 1/7. I swear it works!

Make sure your nails are clean and buff them a little bit before you apply the polish.

I started doing my own manis because they last longer when I do them myself. I swear the nail salons thin the polishes so the bottle of polish lasts longer, but your nails, in turn, chip easier. I use Essie polish and put clear on every other day. My manis last at least a week when I do them, but only a couple days when I go to the salon.

I got the CND Shellac and I loved it, but it didn't last the full 2 weeks. After about 10 days, I got a chip in one nail and I couldn't leave it alone, and I ended up picking at it and then the whole nail polish just peeled off the whole nail. Other than the chip, it would have lasted 2 weeks and then you would have to get it redone because of growth.

As far as removal, I found it super easy and I ended up doing it at home. Yes, I used 100% acetone remover, but I just soaked each nail for a few seconds to get the polish to soften and then I gently peeled it off. No issues with my real nails underneath at all!

I had gotten a gel manicure over the summer for my sister's wedding and forget it! I hated how thick it made my nails and getting it off was the biggest b!tch ever!

I got CND Shellac done too, but for some reason the nail place filed the surface of my nails a little (I don't think they aren't supposed to) but it made it last!

I'm on week 4, and my nails are nearly perfect except the new nail that's growing is not polished.

Its also keeping my nails from snagging or chiping, like they do when they start to grow out.

A really good manicure, on me, lasts 1-2 days before it chips. I don't know if its my nails or my lifestyle, or the clutz factor.

So far, I'm really impressed with this Shellac product. I'm told its not as bad as gel manicure.

I just got this done today, so far so good! I got the OPI Axxium once, and thought it was thick. The one I got today just feels like polish. We'll see how it lasts.

Maybe try bringing your own polish. I also heard that nail places thin the polish and it doesn't last as long.

I have also found that they last longer when I bring my own polish-and it's usually Essie, so it's not the brand that is making the difference because that is what the salon uses.
