NYC teachers. Child care leave ??
Is it possible to return from leave early? Like if you put in until June, but now want to return earlier. Is there anyway to do that? TIA

I know someone posted that if you took child care (which is when your maternity runs out) you could only come back in Sept. I did not think was true but am unsure now....
I would love to know this as well

I went on a child care leave with DD in Jan and was able to come back at the end of May. I originally was supposed to go back in April but I extended it. This was in 2008 though....they might have changed the rules.

I am on child care leave now and was told I could not return until September. But I feel like you get different answers from different people. Good Luck!

I think this depends on your payroll sec. Union told me that if I took Childcare leave I would have to take the rest of the year off. This was at the borough office....I really didn't think this was true.
I took my maternity leave and then did grace period. I took childcare leave for 1 month. I chose when I was coming back. It was never an issue.
See the problem with NYC is that no one knows the correct answer...NO ONE! People think they do but everyone pretty much makes up their own rules...it blows!

Totally- it seems like we all get so many different answers with regard to this- I took leave in early 2007- and because I ran out of days and grace period I was on child care leave for a few weeks. I returned in mid-May (but I didn't see a dime till the last day of school, but I guess that's another story!)

Luv Pregnancy- You are on a childcare leave now? Mind if I ask what you did for medical insurance? Were you able to have it extended? Im on bedrest now (since Oct 12 2011) and due March 1st...i am on a medical leave...getting disability from UFT...planning on taking my 6 weeks mat leave...then the other 6 week FMLA...which will bring me to 3rd week in May...i am wondering if i can extend medical benefits from May-Aug...i am also planning on returning back to work in Spet 2011...sorry so long...
