When sheetrock gets wet, when do you know you HAVE to change it?
Some of our sheetrock got wet. I dont know "how wet" b/c it is the ceiling, so it isn't wet on the side we see. How do you know when you NEED to change it or that it has dried out and is still ok?

If you push on it with your finger and it gives, then it's damaged. If it still feels sturdy, it's probably OK. You would need to make sure that it really is dry, though, because if it stays damp, mold could grow, even if the sheetrock is structurally sound.

If it is wet on the bottom you can just cut above the wet area and replace that part only. If you do replace it use mold free sheet rock.

Ah, it's the ceiling so it's hard to say what was wet. The only wet spot I felt was the size of a quarter, so I dont really know what is going on up there just yet.

i wouldn't worry about it too much unless you see it sink or as mentioned your finger can easily go through it. Also in the summer if you see mold growth then you need to take that section out.
We had plenty of damaged sheet rock that we just couldn't fix it all yet so we did some patch work just so it didn't look like the ceiling was going to cave in on us.

Do you know why it got wet? And that it won't get wet again?

I would cut out the portion that is wet and patch it. This is what we have to do.

After 48 hours mold grows so if it was wet for that long, I would change it.
