At what age did you stop holding DC

While feeding a bottle?

DS is 5 months and we usually feed him solids in the highchair and still hold him while giving the bottle.

Re: At what age did you stop holding DC

DS will be nine months on Friday. He started holding his own bottle at 6 months I think. So depending on what is going on I will either put him in his bouncer and he drinks it on his own or if I am not running around I will hold him. Usually his last bottle of the night I always hold him.

ETA: He is in daycare and I am almost positive they hold him when he drinks his bottle.

Re: At what age did you stop holding DC

since he holds his own bottle, he usually just reclines on the couch while he eats (has not mastered eating sitting up form a bottle yet) at night, i hold him to feed him. all solids are eaten in the high chair (unless we're out of the house, then someone holds him on their lap)
he's 5 1/2 months.

DD is 6 months old and her daddy likes to hold her while giving her the bottle.

Sometimes I hold DD, sometimes I put her in her high chair and recline it all the way and give her the bittle that way.

She can hold her own bottle but its too heavy for her LOL.

Same here! DS can hold his bottle, but it has to be nearly empty for him to get a good grip or it's too heavy.

Re: At what age did you stop holding DC

my MIL still holds DS (11m) when she feeds him bottle, I stopped at 4m, because its when he could hold the bottle himself. I felt like I was only in the way, he was so independent.

Re: At what age did you stop holding DC

Right around 5 months she was holidng her own bottle pretty much all the time.
But I still held her to feed her.

Now that she is 8 months she is VERY independant and doesn't like to be held while drinking.
So I give her the bottle in the high chair or pack n play and she self feeds! Chat Icon

Sometimes if she is very tired or cranky- like for her last bottle before bed- she will let me hold her while feeding her it and she will sometimes fall asleep in my arms Chat Icon

LOL, my DD is 14 months and I still give her a bottle at night before she goes to bed...I still hold her when giving her the bottle. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

She never held her own bottle! (DS started holding his own bottle at 4 months)... she's just a princess!... plus, this is the last thing about her that makes me feel like she's still a little baby so I'm holding onto it as long as I can!

My mom was over this weekend and she was so shocked that I didn't hold DS to give him his milk! She kinda made me feel bad about it, lol. She scooped him up and held him like a baby while he drank it Chat Icon Then he wriggled out of her hold and sat up to drink Chat Icon

He started holding his own bottle about 8-9 months. At that point, I would just sit him in my lap to drink it. At about 10.5 months, I started just handing it to him and he would drink on his own.

what size bottle do all of your DC's take? I am amazed at you saying your 4 or 5 mo old could hold their own bottle? My DD is 8 mos old and can hold it but it's too heavy - she takes a full 8oz and we still hold her for every bottle...she only has 3 a day so it's not annoying or anything...I love that time with her.

Re: At what age did you stop holding DC

She's been holding the bottle since about 5 months old (she's 10 months now). Unless we are eating dinner in the kitchen (then she sits in he high chair), I always hold her while she drinks her bottle.

This baby phase goes so fast, I want to savor every minute I can! I plan on holding her while she drinks her bottle as long as she lets me.

ETA - DD drinks 6-7 oz bottles

My MIL feeds her laying on a table or in the high chair and it looks so sad to me. I always want to steal her when she does that.

My DS is almost 6 months old and he sometimes puts his hands on the bottle while he drinks, but it's too heavy for him to hold by himself. Usually, he has his hands on the top of his head while he drinks. Chat Icon

Re: At what age did you stop holding DC

DD is 2, and we always held her while giving her the bottle. She knew how to hold her bottle but wanted us to do it. I didn't mind since I loved that time with her. Even now with her morning and bedtime sippy, she likes to sit on my lap (or DH) and have us hold her sippy for her. (She does drink from the sippy herself!! It's just those two sippys).

DS is 6 months and can hold the bottle, but again, we always hold him.

I love the cuddle time! There comes a time where they don't want to cuddle and sit on your laps anymore, so I am savoring this time!

DS is 12 months and I still hold him when he has his bottle in the morning and night...he only has a bottle twice a day and during the day he drinks out of his sippy on his own..he doesn't like to be held as much anymore so we enjoy it.

Re: At what age did you stop holding DC

DS never wanted to hold his own bottle, so I held him when I gave him his bottle till we gave up bottles altogether (15 mos?)

DD seems to be the same way. She is 6 mos and plays with her bottle but will not hold it.

I have no interest in not holding them when I give them their bottles. I love the cuddle time and I usually play with their chubby little fingers while they are drinking.Chat Icon

DS is almost 18 m/o. He could hold his bottle when he was pretty young - maybe 4 months (we were giving him the 4 oz bottles at the time so they weren't too heavy.)

We stopped all but the bedtime bottle at a year. But I almost always held him (and generally still do nowChat Icon.) He holds his bottle but I love the cuddle time with him.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, when we are eating dinner she puts a blanket on the table (next to the salt, pepper and grated cheese. . . ) lays DD down on it and feeds her with one hand while eating dinner. It drives me nuts. I will wait for a break in the feeding and pretend I have to burp her and then feed her the rest. You see her once a week, if you dont have the time to feed her - let anyone else do it!
