WWYD, if anything?
I'm not happy @ my current job - for a number of reasons.
I've started checking the usual job sites when I see my current position is listed on career builder as of yesterday!!!!
I feel I'm a good employee - yes, I've gone on the internet here & there, I've never been written up, and only 1 time have I been given a verbal warning to "watch the amount of time" I was taking off.
It's "known" around here that they are not openly hiring because in January they let 6 people and cut all non-supervisor personnel from 40 hours to 35 hours.
I'm hesitant to say anything b/c how do I justify looking on that site to begin with.
What, if anything, would you do??

wow....... awkward..
Well, look, I'll be honest: I would create an account and apply & see what happens.. I'd even send a friend for the interview to get the scoop. I'd want to know.
I'm sorry.

Re: WWYD, if anything?
Uhm..if I went on an internet job board, saw my own job listed and knowing the company had no plans of actually increasing personnel - - - well..the writing is pretty clear on the wall...
I'd be updating my resume and covery letter quickly and applying to jobs elsewhere...cuz the ax would be coming down any minute!

Re: WWYD, if anything?
can you ask about it and say a friend told you about it? I would probably say a friend saw the job posting and asked me about it since they knew it was what I did, or company I work for...
Pretty lame that they put the posting out before anything else or telling you!

Agreed. I would bring it up. It will shock them that you have the balls to do it and then they may have to give you severance to keep you from threatening to sue them!
eta: not that you would have any legal grounds but I think the shock would make them nervous.
Also, could it be that it's not your job? Is that possible?

While it does not say the name of the company, it has... -the H.R person's name -details description of my job duties -the type of company is unique, not like a law firm or an accounting firm, so that makes it obvious. There are not many companies of this nature on Long Island, let alone in that town.
I don't know if I have the balls to say anything though. I happened upon it when I searched to find the other companies on Long island in this industry.

Re: WWYD, if anything?
Is there a possibility that they are preparing to promote you and need someone to take over your current position?
When I was the receptionist at my office, they had me train a new employee as the receptionist so I freaked out but it turns out that they were planning on promoting me to another position but didn't want me to know in case the new person didn't work out. Sometimes I question this kind of logic...

Re: WWYD, if anything?
I don't know if I could go for very long without confronting them.
How do you get along with your superiors?
Have there been any kind of issues with clients/customers?
Anything else in terms of your responsibilities that you have not followed up on or that could be perceived as not following up on?
What is your personality like with others at the office?
