I found this quote from Diane Ravitch in her review of Waiting for Superman. It is so logical...so why is is that all of a sudden everyone that is not an educator seems know what is best for education?

"The best way to ensure that there are no bad or ineffective teachers in our public schools is to insist that we have principals and supervisors who are knowledgeable and experienced educators. Yet there is currently a vogue to recruit and train principals who have little or no education experience."

If it weren't for bad principals the whole move to end LIFO wouldn't be quite as scary. If everyone had a principal who enough knowledge to properly and fairly evaluate a teacher's performance maybe layoffs based on this would not be so bad.

I think in order to become an administrator you should have at least 10-15 years CLASSROOM experience.

In a world were we have a school chancellor who never even attend public school, let along taught in one, I guess this problem is not going to get any better any time soon.
