Ethical issue of sorts- WWYD?
Background: I serve on my school's consultation committee (UFT related) as well as the school leadership team.
One of other teachers forged a parking pass. Our chapter leader (also on both committees with me) is incensed. I am not thrilled, but I don't drive and I am more and more into keeping a low profile. My principal knows and does not want to do anything about it.
The chapter leader has a rocky relationship with several teachers, including the one with the forged pass. Today she showed me a draft of a letter to the teacher, demanding that the pass be tossed or 311/NYPD/DOE/DOT will be called.
I am on friendly terms with the forger- and while I don't condone forgery I also want to keep the good relationship I have with my colleagues. I offered to chat with the forger first, before we go all official and start giving out letters.
Good idea? Or should I let the chapter leader unleash? I should add that the CL wants to do this TOMORROW even though I told her it was bad timing because everyone is in a frenzy about our review next week and the potential for being closed.

Probably too late, but I would speak with the teacher first. I can't believe someone would have the audacity to forge a parking permit....but I would talk to them before getting the authorities involved.

Thanks for the feedback- nothing happened today because the chapter leader wanted all the SLT members to see it. But I am going to try to talk to her Monday.

i would stay out of it. what she did was wrong, so let the letter be given to her. it's only a letter. hopefully she will do the right thing and that will be that and it will not have to go any further
