neutering question

I took my dog to get neutered today and the vet said he had to stay overnight because he developed a hematoma in the scrotum. If it gets bigger he has to go back in Chat Icon Did this happen to anyone else's dog? I'm really nervous for him

Re: neutering question

I know a bunch of people that had this happen to their dogs. All a hematoma is is blood collection. Think of it like a blood blister or bruise in his scrotum. It will be absorbed back into his body as he heals, just keep an eye on it and take pictures if you can. You could email them to the vet for another set of eyes instead of going back in, if they're cool like that.

Good luck Chat Icon

It happened to our guy in his abdomen. The hemotoma was so big that he had to go in for another surgery. It was a whole ordeal but there were other complications which I'm sure your pup doesn't have. This was last summer. He is absolutely fine now and back to his old self. Many Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon for your little one!

Re: neutering question

Yes, this happened to Logan in October when he was neutered and it went away on it's own.

Good luck!Chat Icon

thanks ladies. He's fine. The hematoma didn't grow and he was able to come home yesterday. Oddly enough, he even likes his cone:
