Question about 2nd trimester losses
I don't mean to be insensitive at all, but I've noticed a lot of people have posted about their second trimester losses.
I was wondering if you found out the cause... was it chromosomal, something to do with your cervix/uterus, a clotting thing or something else. And if you found out the reason, was it something that could have been prevented had you known at the time?
I am asking because I had a m/c in December and recently found out that I'm pregnant again. I've always thought once you make it to the second trimester, you're basically "safe" but now I'm worried that its not the case.

Re: Question about 2nd trimester losses
My loss was due to a chromosonal abnormality. They happen at conception and are a "fluke". I carried until 15 weeks. Imo alot of people that suffer losses during this period are chromosonal. There is nothing you can do.
Congrats on your current pregnancy.

Re: Question about 2nd trimester losses
we still don't exactly what caused mine.
it was either my cervix.. (incompetent cervix) or my thrombophilia that i found out about later on after i got tested.
so i took every precaution.. got a cerclage and treated the blood clotting issues and i was fine.

Re: Question about 2nd trimester losses
My first loss was at 8 wks, second was at 10 and this last one we lost our son at 16 weeks just a month ago. We are still waiting for answers.. nothing yet. My dr says most likely genetic reasons but nothing yet! We are seeing an RE now going through all the testing for myself and my husband right now! Good luck and dont stress!! Enjoy it!!

Re: Question about 2nd trimester losses
Ours was at 17wks and it was due to complications that were a complete fluke. We had the placenta tested for genetic issues and it came up fine.
for your current pregnancy! The important thing to remember is that usually, it's fine!

Re: Question about 2nd trimester losses
I lost mine at 15 weeks. The doctors tested the baby and said that he had an elevated number of white blood cells, which could have possibly indicated an infection. The doctors didn't really have any other answers and just said that sometimes it just happens. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Re: Question about 2nd trimester losses
I had a loss at 19 weeks and there was no reason they could find bar the small possibility of a clotting problem. I was happy to know they were unable to find anything obvious, it took a lot of pressure off of us trying to get pregnant again. I got pregnant with my daughter 2 months after my miscarriage.

You should get a consult with Dr. Braverman...

Re: Question about 2nd trimester losses
I lost my son at 24 weeks and it was due to a placental abruption. I also found out I have a blood clotting disorder. I am now 31 weeks pregnant with our third and take medicine for the disorder and am monitored by a peri.
