DOE Teachers: Provisional Positions
Does anyone know what kind of rights I will have as a "provisional teacher?"
For example, at the end of the year am I considered excessed?
I'm so confused and really don't want to be a PITA at my new job.

Re: DOE Teachers: Provisional Positions
Can you ask the chapter leader? I wonder if you'd be excessed- we have two subs and I actually think they would be safe over appointed people because of the pay and the fact that they get no benefits. But it is good that you teach math (if I recall correctly) because math is always in need.

Re: DOE Teachers: Provisional Positions
Yes I am math.
What is a chapter leader? Our union rep?
I tried talking to him but he really didn't seem to know.
What he told me was they were trying to fill this position from the teacher reserve. No one wanted it so I ultimately got the job. But with the job came the paper saying hired until june 30th.
But I have full benefits and everything else. So I am just so confused.
And how can teachers sit home and get paid but not take a job when one becomes available?
ughhh....so much to learn!

Re: DOE Teachers: Provisional Positions
It is frustrating that ATRs can turn down a job, but that just means they are in another school collecting dust, subbing, etc...not home...perhaps if it works out in this school, the principal can do something to keep you...sometimes that's possible. It sounds like you are dedicated and they are lucky to have you..maybe call the borough UFT office for the borough you're working in?
