Stage 1 or 2 baby food???
What stage should I get for Taylor at 4 months old? I know you're suppose to start with 1, but she LOVES her cereal fairly thick so I wasn't sure if the Stage 1 jarred foods would be too runny for her? I believe I did Stage 1 with the boys, but definitely not too long?
Did anyone go right into Stage 2 and skip 1?
Thanks!

You should definitely start with Stage 1. Stage 2 is not only thicker, but also has chunks in it. A 4 month old wouldn't be ready for that yet!

Re: Stage 1 or 2 baby food???
DD was 6 months when she really "took" to solids.
I alternated btwn stage 1 & 2. She didn't care. But she likes things thick anyway.
Also, take into consideration that when they begin, they don't eat a lot.
I wasted a lot of food when I used the Stage 2 bc she just didn't eat that much.

Re: Stage 1 or 2 baby food???
I would say skip right to stage 2....my DS was eating cereal early (8weeks or so) and I tried the stage 1 and they were so thin they wouldn't even stay in his mouth. It was more of a headache then it was worth! The only thing is that some of the stage 2s are a blend of two different foods....so if you were going to give "apples and bananas"...I would just make sure that your DC has had either bananas or apples plain first, this way if they have a reaction, you know the cause....KWIM

Really? I never saw or purchased any stage 2 with chunks in them, I thought that was stage 3?
All of the stage two I have ever given is relatively thin, the only difference I've noticed is that stage two also makes combination jars, which I would not give until each food was introduced separately.

stage 3 starts the chunks.. stage 2 are just bigger jars... in my experience.

Same here.
I started with stage 1 but, I moved very quickly to stage 2 because I felt I got more for my money (even if DS didn't finish the container, I put it in the fridge and used it within the next 2 days).

Re: Stage 1 or 2 baby food???
OK, three kids in, I had NO idea there was any difference (other than size) between stages one and two!
Anyway, I just got the green light this week to start Patrick on the orange/yellow veggies. My cousin just gave me a bunch of jars she had leftover--all stage two. Because I was psyched to try the new foods out, I didn't bother going shopping, I just used what she gave me.
He loved loved loved the squash. I gave him about 1/3 of the jar and refrigerated the rest.

This is correct... I'm currently feeding DS stage 2 and table food... Stage 2 because I have it in the house and I won't waste it, table food because he wants real food.
DS seemed to not really like stage 1 and I do think it was because it was too runny. I always mix his baby food with cereal to thicken it.
I think you might try buying just a couple of jars of stage 2 and seeing how she responds.

Yep- but the main difference is most stage 2's are mixtures. Apples/Blueberries Pear/Pineapple
And you need to try one new fruit or vege at time to rule out allergies.
So stick with stage 1 - and then once you see they dont' have a reaction to say- apples- you can try apples/blueberries (stage 2) and if they get a reaction it's to the blueberries not the apples, KWIM?

No stage 2 does not have chunks in it, that's stage 3.
The only difference between stage 1 and stage 2 is the size of the jar and they have more/different fruits/vegetables and combinations available.

Re: Stage 1 or 2 baby food???
I started with Stage 1 and at 6.5 months, DS is still getting Stage 1. I think the Stage 2's are a little too much for him just yet, portion-wise.

Sorry, I had my stages mixed up! I never bought jars because I made my own- I totally forgot there was a Stage 3 at all! Lol! Sorry for the confusion!
