New Lepto shot?

I was completely against getting the Lepto shot, especially for my little dogs, but I live near Belmost Park, and supposedly there have been reports of Lepto breaking out. I live ON the park, as in, the Park is on the other side of my fence.

The old Lepto shot had a TON of side affects, including death, and only covered 2 strains of lefpto. The new one covers 5 strains and has had no severe side affects to date.

I am still a little concerned about giving it to my 2 dogs that are only 5 lbs each, but has anyone here gotten this shot for their (small) dogs?

At this point in time, it's a very controversial injection.

Tyson had it a couple of weeks ago and had a bad reaction at the injection site. He was super sore and in his hip and screamed when you picked him up. The emergency vet said he may have been more scared then in pain, but I think it was the other way around.

He was sore and lethargic for several days following the shot.

My vet said he's recommend if I had a big dog.

But little dogs get usually a very bad reaction, many deadly. That's why Rocky didn't haveit

Then he said, but a small dog near park, wooded area might need it.

Thanks everyone, I am really ahving a hard time deciding about this to the point where I am making 2 of my dogs indoor dogs - which I did NOT want to do

We debated but we live near a park and lepto rates are high in this area. After talking it over with the vet, we decided to get it done for both boys since we take them out a lot and take them to dog parks. Good luck!
