Re: montessori

My DC goes to a montessori school though, not the one you mentioned. I will say that from what I have seen and heard each montessori school differes DRAMATICALLY in almost all respects - you really have to go and watch a whole class at the particular school to know how it is - not all montessori schools are created equal.

Also, I think the school is a very particular kind of enviornment that allows some children to really thrive in a way they would not elsewhere but, for others, leaves them a bit lost at times. I think you need to make sure it is the right fit for your child.

For my DC - I absolutely LOVE the school. It is 100% the right fit for him and, it beats out all the other schools in the area by far.

FM me if you have any other questions!

I agree 100% with everything written.

We just moved my two children into a Montessori program. My youngest is thriving - it was the best things we could have done to move him there.

My oldest is doing well but having come from 3 1/2 years of a traditional daycare setting it has been hard. At times I think he does feel lost and he's constantly looking for direction and permission. Time will tell for him. In the meanwhile he has started sounding out words already Chat Icon

Re: montessori

Montessori schools can be tricky. There are no guidlines really so a school can label themselves as "Montessori", so in that regard you have to be careful.

They basically have a less structured day, its child-centered. They let the kids decide what they want to learn/do that day. From what Ive learned in grad school they have centers/stations where the child could work on mastering a task, the child chooses. The teachers work as facilitators, they just help out of needed they do no direct the children.

Its not for every child. Some just need more structure and direction. I would see if they have a day where you can observe or if they have an orientation for the parents to see if you like it.Chat Icon
