Anyone have a toddler with an umbilical hernia that did not go away?

Peyton will be 3 in a few days and still has her umbilical hernia. They said it would likely go away by 2 or 2 1/2. Well hers did not. I was wondering what they do about it. I will ask the Ped at her next visit but was wondering if anyone here had a personal experience to share. TIA

My son had an umbilical hernia that diid not go away on its own. He had to have surgery to repair it when he was about 4 1/2.
My 2 1/2 year old daughter also has one, and she just had a surgical consultation last week and the Dr. said that to come back in a year to check it, but they most likely won't do anything about it until she is 4.

I have a friend who just had to have his operated on at 28 years old. He no longer has a belly button now.

Better probably to get it earlier than in your late 20s...

My DD's went away when she was a little over 4.

We are in the same boat, my DS is just a bit over 3---my ped wants me to hold off as she feels it is still improving--I am giving it another 6 months and then I will discuss a surgical consult to get their opinion as well.

Alexandra will be 1 in a few weeks and I feel like hers hasn't really changed at all since birth. I hate to be vain, but I really hate the darn thing and I hope it goes away. For summer I tried to buy mostly 1 pc outfits so I won't have to deal with her shirt riding up and any possible stares/questions.

Our ped says they won't do anything about it until she's 4.

My goddaughter had umbilical hernia that did not go away - she had surgery and everything went well.

My neighbors daughter has one and her ped told her they usually go away by the time they are 5. If it's still there at 5 they repair it surgically.

DS didnt go away by 3 and he had surgery but he was having surgery anyway to remove a urychal cyst and they just removed it then. Nobody had mentioned doing anything about it separately from that.

My DD is still young, but i was told if it didnt go away, it is a very simple surgical procedure. they just put a small piece of mesh in told hold everything together.
