Gift for First Communion?
DH and I got an invitation to go to a family member's first communion. We have no experience with this sort of thing and have no idea what is appropriate to gift.
I was thinking $50 ($25 in cash and $25 toys r us gift card) because when I was little and had parties, my mom made me put the cash in the bank, but I got to spend all my giftcards! I thought it would be nice to give her some to save and give her some to spend.
Is $50 enough? Should I do the 25 cash/25 giftcard or should it just all be in cash?
Or do you not give money at all and give something like jewelry?? Is jewelry better than cash for a first communion?
They came to our wedding and were very generous ($250).
Please help!!

I think the giftcard is a very cute idea!! Especially since, you're right- my mom did the same thing (put all the money in the bank).
As far as how much, for communions and christening I usually give $100 (from myself and DH). I have 14 so we have at least one a year. I generally give a check for $100.

Re: Gift for First Communion?
For my son's Communion. most people gave a $100 check. However, I'm sure he would've LOVED a gift card so he could pick out something that he would like because we deposited all of the money into his college account.

Toys r Us is still good. You can also do the American Girl store, Justice (girls that age love the clothes!), Clarie;s (although $50 might be too much!), Target or Build a Bear.

Re: Gift for First Communion?
I personally think $50 is enough. A bond is a good idea.

Re: Gift for First Communion?
My children were allowed to keep 1/4 of what money they got and the rest went into their bank account.
