IVF at North Shore
Hi, I've been married for 6 yrs, and have been trying to have a baby for many years. Been pregnant once, but due to preeclampsia, and lost. Now, 35, and would like to do IVF at North Shore.
Can you pls recommend a doctor in North Shore? How does it compare with Cornell or NYU in the city?
Also, for North Shore, if you make an appointment to see a doctor, would he be the one doing the IVF operation or someone else could be doing it?
Thanks

Re: IVF at North Shore
I'm so sorry for your loss!
Have you seen a RE in the past and had testing done? Have you tried meds, IUIs, etc.? I don't know your medical history, but you may not need to go right to IVF.
Many insurance companies won't pay for IVF until you've tried other options first.
I'm one of the lucky ones that my first medicated Clomid/IUI cycle worked - I know its not that easy for many.
I went to The Center for Human Reproduction at North Shore and saw Dr. Hershlag for most appointments. I also saw Dr. Rausch who did my Back to Back IUIs. I was very happy with them!
The way they are set up is that you'll have a main doctor that you have your consultations and discuss plans/protocol with but monitoring, etc. is generally handled by whomever is "on" that day.
I wish you lots of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have Dr. Hershlag and he just got me my BFP after 5 years TTC. Dr. Cohen did my egg retrival but Dr. Hershlag always did my transfers. I have always had a positive experience there. I am so sorry for you loss and I wish you much success getting your BFP.

Dr. Chu did my retrieval and Dr. Rausch did my transfer. For morning monitoring I saw Scholl and Cohen. I was very happy with everyone @ the practice!!! Good Luck!!!

Re: IVF at North Shore
Hi. I am so sorry for your loss. I adore North Shore and am now 6 weeks pregnant with twins from IVF. Whoever does your IVF consult is your main doctor. But honestly you will see all of them.
North Shore doesn't group their patients together. Your body controls the cycle. You see whichever doctor is working that day. Each doctor has a set day of the week they do retrievals and transfers since they are done every day. Dr. Rausch was my primary doctor and I only saw her a few times during my monitoring appts if they just happen to fall on the days she did monitoring. Dr. Hershlag did my retrieval and Dr. Cohen did my transfer. I see her now for my weekly ultrasounds. Next week will be my last week there and I'm going to miss them all sooo much.
The nice thing is they all consult about the cases and you have multiple people reviewing your file which I liked since I think an extra set or two of eyes never hurt.
Good Luck!!!!!

Re: IVF at North Shore
I have to agree with the above poster. I have been a patient of NSUH for 4 years. I got pregnant on my first ivf, however we did try surgery for endometriosis and iuis before that. Now I'm trying for my second. I've had some hard times and the doc and the nurse are wonderful all the time. I always joke that they seem never to have a bad day. The nurses are just as important as the docs. They know you and go out of their way for you. I currently see DR Scholl as a primary but I've seen them all.
Hope your time here is short

Re: IVF at North Shore
I'm glad to read that so many people are pleased with their LI RE's. As balance i'd like to share my experience. My GYN was associated with North Shore so she recommended Dr. Cohen to me about 2 years ago. After several blood and anatomy tests, including HSG, Dr. Cohen said that the likelihood of me getting pregnant was slim to none. At the time I was 33 with an FSH of 14.9 and endometriosis (no lap done to check stage but assumed severe at stage 4). On my 2nd appointment Cohen said my husband and I "should get on an adoption list right away". Hard words to hear. His unwillingness to try any ART, and his cold demeanor, guided me to Cornell's CRMI. My case was not seen as impossible to them at all. I've completed one IVF cycle there already (BFN) and am doing ET for IVF #2 tomorrow. Even though the first round didn't take, the confidence and expertise at CRMI makes forging ahead that much easier. Oh, and the office in Garden City doesn't hurt either. Long Island is steps away from the biggest city in the world. What good is that if we don't take advantage of their resources? Good luck to everyone!

Re: IVF at North Shore
I so agree w/ you about the demeanor of Dr. Cohen. Made me cry when I was advised I only had 1 option, then was given a price list
