Moving & School District Move
Anyone know what happens when you move and school districts? Okay so here's what's going on. My house is sold and closing is scheduled next month. I should also close on my new house around the same time. I may be homeless for awhile but I don't know.
What are the chances I can continue to send my kids to my current district? I really want them to just finish off the 1-1.5 month at the same school. Sounds horrible, but can I just not let them know I've sold the house and drive the kids everyday to their current school? Tips?

yeah you probably could just drive them. I know in my district they would let the kids finish out the year.

Just continue to drive them. I had to do this for DS last year. It was a pain in the butt but at least he got to finish the year with his friends.

I think it depends on the district. I know someone who is moving out of Bellmore in a few weeks and she was told that her kids couldn't finish out the year unless they were in their last year in that school.

One of my daughter's friends moved a few towns away last week. Her mom said she is finishing the school year here.

Re: Moving & School District Move
Can you ask the school secretaries or teacher as a hypothetical to see what's been done before? That way you haven't let it out that you're moving out of the district.
I know my DH switched schools when he was younger & even though it was only 2 months before school ended, he made a few friends that he was able to play with over the summer.

Since you would technically be "homeless" your kids can attend the school they currently attend. Typically only until you move and get a permanent address though.

Re: Moving & School District Move
Thanks everyone. I feel so much better. I was really worried about that. Seems the consensus is that it will be okay if I keep them in their current district. I am going to just pose a hypothetical question to someone at the school to see what they would say just to see.

This is EXACTLY what I would do in your shoes! Let them finish the year an not worry about anything else for now! Don't see anything horrible about this!
