Re: ped suggested sleeping on belly

Both my girls were belly sleepers. As a matter of fact, whe DD#1 was little(she is 10) they recommended all babies to sleep on their bellies. At this point, I think if the next strength is good, I would be FINE with it.

can your little one turn head from side to side?

belly sleeping should be ok- our parents did it for all of us and we turned out ok!

Yes DD can turn her head from side to side. I watch her in the monitor while she naps on her belly. So far so good!

Re: ped suggested sleeping on belly

I've been putting my daughter on her side, because of the worries of belly sleeping and the fear that if she spits up laying on her back. I found it works best for us all. Shes on her back but upwards in her swing or bounder. Shes on her belly when laying me or my husband.

I'm shocked your ped would suggest it...I let my kids sleep in their bouncers inside their cribs until they were 4 months...I don't know. I don;t think I would ever get any sleep like that

Wow, you think this is safer than sleeping on their belly? Both my kids were rolling very early and would have flipped the bouncer in their crib creating a horrible situation. Not to mention that really isn't the safest position for a baby breathing wise either. I can't imagine any ped would ever say this would be a safe situation! At 4 mos they are pretty mobile too - I don't think I would ever be able to sleep like that!

Both of my kids slept on their bellies once they were in the crib (4.5 mos). Ped said if they could turn their heads and lift their heads it was fine. By this point they were rolling into that position on their own - I didn't put them in that way. We all did it years ago and we are all here to tell about it!

most, if not all of us, slept on our bellies when we were babies.

IF it was the only way my DC would sleep then I would do it, BUT, I would follow all the other SIDS guidelines:

- no bumpers/stuffed animals/toys
- no blankets
- have fan on in the room to circulate the air

And I would probably get the angel care monitor to for peace of mind.
