How long do you try before you just give up...
I got a position this year (my first real job)and due to budget cuts, I am done as of June 30th. I am not in a tenure track position (although if the budget didn't get cut, I would have been on that path) so I am not on the call back list.
I have been out of college over 2 years and am already extremely discouraged. I worked so hard and thought this would be the year it would all begin.
How long do you try before you just give up and change jobs?
I love teaching, can't imagine doing anything else BUT DH is back in school and we need my paycheck to survive. Without it we can't make ends meet.
I don't know what to do, I can't go back to subbing, ughhh

I'm done.
Four years is enough for me. I am in the process of getting certified to teach in CT and planning on getting my sped certs, but with a baby on the way I need a paycheck more than I need to continue "getting my foot in the door" with subbing and leave replacements.
It makes me really sad.

It is a tough time and it will continue for at least another year, but if this is what you want, I would stick with it. What do you need to survive a month and how many sub days is that? could you survive on that?
There will always be teachers who get pregnant (me!) and leave replacements. It's not ideal, but work will be out there.

I am also done, its been 5 years for me. I think I was done at around 4. It is just enough.

Re: How long do you try before you just give up...
I am starting to give up as well.
I taught out of state twice because of being recruited up here for down there.
I had a tenure track position and was cut 2 years ago after 2 years. I was an elective teacher at that school, so even though they have 7 years to call me back...I really do not see it happening unless the only other teacher retires in the next few years.
I have done leave replacements, subbing, coaching, etc you name it.
I am tired of bouncing around.
Right now I am in the city and hate it as well...but it is a paycheck.
I have no idea where I will be in September and I am exploring other options even though I love teaching.
