any garmin users?
i got my garmin a few months ago, and it's been such a frustrating device! it's virutally impossible to get a sattelite signal in nyc and i can't figure out what settings to use when i run. right now it's stuck on the sunrise time display.
anyone else have one? i'd dying for tips/suggestions for how to use.

which model do you have? I have a 405. When I have trouble getting a signal, I hold my wrist up to the sky...I don't know if that helps, but it usually works.
It is hard to get one if there are trees/buildings, could you get to an intersection to see if you can get one?

I have the 205 and when I go to the park it can sometimes be difficult getitng a signal (because of all the trees). What I do is I turn it on BEFORE i go in a place I know I'll get a signal.
Like, Erica I also hold it up to the sky. I walk around alot until I get a signal. I could imagine in NYC with all the buildings it can be difficult.
As far as the settings, what model do you have? I might be able to help if its the same as mine.

I have the same frustration with catching a signal. Usually my first 5 minutes of my run is with my watch searching for a signal. It's annoying but I am kind of glad to know that it's not just me & the model watch that I have.

I got a 305 for christmas and also live in nyc. It's definitely a pain to get a signal. I find standing in one spot and not moving seems to help the most.
My DH has the 405 and got so irritated by it he ended up selling it a few months later because it would just never lock in.

I have a 205. I have to stand still and let it find a signal before I start running. If I start running before I get a signal, it takes forever.

thanks for the responses.
i have the 405x with the heart rate monitor. i'm so frustrated with the thing, that i haven't even tried to use it with the monitor.
