did i mess up???
i think i may have messed things up for DS. Because he was so miserable the first few weeks (he is 7 weeks now) we held him all the time. now he cannot fall asleep without being held and is a very light sleeper when he is asleep. he hates the swing and any other chair sort of thing and the crib is out as of now. he will nap on the boppy on the couch ( i know that is a big fat no no) but wakes so easily. i realize he is still a newborn but will he ever be able to self soothe and go to sleep on his own?? (btw we live in a small one br apt so he doesnt have his own room that i could have him in)

Re: did i mess up???
You did NOT mess up!!!!!! Honestly they will outgrow this phase, it'll just take a little while. You didn't create a bad habit, at 7 weeks he's still just used to being on the "inside" kwim??? A white noise machine might help a bit to drown out outside noise, but don't worry as he gets a little bigger it'll be fine!!

Re: did i mess up???
thanks!! dont get me wrong i LOVEEE holding him and having him by my side at all times but.... when it is time to do the sink full of dishes or take a shower it would be nice to be able to put him down without the hysterics lol

Re: did i mess up???
Do you have a sling or a baby bjorn??? I found that helped a Lot when trying to do "stuff" - like eating!!! They're just used to you, ALL OF YOU, while they were cooking. Trust me they outgrow it. And you'll miss it

Re: did i mess up???
FYI... DS napped in his boppy on the couch until he was 5mo (oh the horror!). I just didn't go very far when he napped.
Do what makes him comfortable and then as he gets older, ease into the changes you want to make (ie... napping the crib. The transition from napping on the couch to napping in the crib was seamless).
Good luck.

Re: did i mess up???
NOT AT ALL!
I held Loey basically for the first 6 months and hardly ever let him cry. He just ALWAYS wanted to be held and it broke my heart to hear him cry.
At 6 months, we did CIO (because we felt he was ready) and he cried for 10 minutes and then STTN from then on.
Now at 16 months, he is the most independent baby! He really is so secure and confident. He will go into any situation and walk up to people, wave, talk to people, play by himself with toys, etc.
