Lactose Intolerant? Milk Sensitivity? What do you think?
Background: Jordan was on Alimentum and then Elecare. At 11 months, tested negative for milk allergy from bloodwork. Successfully weaned him off of Elecare onto Similac Sensitive formula. After his first birthday, started very slow wean to organic whole milk. Would get little rashes on his face and would only only poop every 2-3 days and often needed milk of magnesia to do so.
Had skin test at allergist around 13.5 months - tested negative for milk allergy again. Rashes eventually disappeared. Changed to lactaid milk to see if that helped with bathroom issues. On Lactaid around 1.5 months, no change. Changed back to regular organic whole milk today. One loose stool today. He has had yogurt and has been fine. He has had cheese two times - around two weeks ago and today. BOTH times, he threw up around 4 hours after he had the cheese - "pieces" of cottage cheese looking stuff in puke (sorry) as if something had curdled in his stomach. Cheese two times, throw up both times. Going to check in with ped on Monday, but curious what you guys think - sensitivity? just can't handle cheese? again - has not thrown up from milk or yogurt but both times with cheese.
Any thoughts?

My son had and has the same problem. Was on Nutramigen and tried at 1 yr old and before all types of dairy and whole milk. He would break out in a rash on his face and neck. Like little red dots. He had a blood test and scratch test both negative. Took him to a gastroenterologist and he said it's a food sensitivity. He is now almost 2 and just starting to be able to tolerate small doses of dairy.
ps- no allergies of any type on either side of our family.

My DS has non-IgE allergies (dairy among other things), which won't show up on blood or skin test (from what his GI said most allergists won't even tell you this type of allergy even exists). His allergies cause eczema all over the face, spitting up/vomiting & mucousy stools. He also tests positive for blood in his stool.

It sounds like he is lactose intolerant Michal. But I would save his poop diapers when he has them and take them to Dr. H and have them do the stool test. That is what Sienna's GI here did for her. She told us that even though they might test negative in a skin test or a blood test, they can still have the allergy because it is GI related.

Little red dots - that was it exactly - although they stopped happening over time. Every stool test was negative for blood in poop. He was fine on the lactaid, which I started again this morning. The cheese is the only thing that has made him vomit. Fine with yogurt - so weird. Bad night - he was up again and sick at 10:30 and 12:30
Going to speak to ped tomorrow and see what he says and where to go from there.
ETA - he did have shots on Wed and has been running a slight fever, although I do think the throwing up had to do with the cheese
