Money Savings Tips

Was wondering if anyone out there had any good money saving tips? Im always looking for new ways to save money - especially at the grocery store - cant seem to spend less than $150/week for 2 peopleChat Icon

Here are some things i do to save:

buy trash bags online in bulk - huge savings over buying at grocery store

use cheap hair conditioner (suave on sale for 88 cents) instead of shaving cream

use a popcorn maker and kernels instead of buying boxed micro popcorn

Re: Money Savings Tips

This is what we do:

1. Avoid shopping at high end supermarkets. We go to Asssociated, Compare Foods and Waldbaums since its the closest to our house. We also do BJs for things like paper towels, toilet paper, household cleaners/detergent.

2. Coupons and flyers always help - if certain items are on special (3 boxes of cereal for $8, we buy it). Also buying store brands.

3. Brownbagging lunch if possible

4. When cooking, look for recipes that have 4-6 servings, the leftovers to be taken to lunch the next day or another night when DH or I don't feel like cooking.

5. Planning a menu so you only need to buy the ingredients you need (ie not buy 1 lb of scallops if the recipe only calls for 2 ounces - just buy what is needed).

I am sure DH has more ideas since he's the penny pinching person in our marriage, so I may update later.

One thing that has really helped is saying to myself.."do I really need it?"

This has gotten me off of a lot of ledges.

Re: Money Savings Tips

Avoiding the store and making do with what you have.

I spend a lot of money at the grocery store as well, and 9 times out of 10, it's because I'm just going out of HABIT and buying stuff we really don't NEED because I have a craving.

Same goes for things like clothing and just random items.

I find if you avoid stores in general, you will spend less money.

We only buy what's onsale and use coupons. I do alot of my shopping at BJ's, buy in bulk, freeze meats and only buy produce or perishable items as needed.

This weekend Pathmark and Waldbaums are trippling coupons up to a $1. You can save a great deal when you take advantage of these sales....
