Do you ever feel like there are so many obstacles to working out?
I have been off the workout wagon for about 4 months now, ever since I went back to work (was on maternity leave for awhile). I don't know what happened! I had been doing great, working out 4 times a week and eating well. I am not really too overweight, I look ok actually, but I am not where I was pre-baby and I cannot stand it. But now that I am working I feel so tired and DH doesn't get home until late and by the time I put the baby to bed it is 7 and the last thing I want to do is work out.. I seriously feel like such a lazy a$$. I want, no I NEED to loose about 10lbs by the summer, that is only about 6weeks. I know what I HAVE To do, but I am totally lacking energy and motivation. Why am I my own obstacle? How do you get motivation?

Re: Do you ever feel like there are so many obstacles to working out?
it's a struggle every day. i'm doing couch 2 5k for now to get myself on a schedule - i figure kids thrive on schedules, why not me, lol. also, it's only about a 1/2 hour workout 3x/week so even though i go to the gym around 8 after dd goes to bed, it's not a huge time commitment. if i end up missing a day, i just do it the next day and readjust my schedule. i am hoping once i am more far along, i'll have more energy and the exercise will become self re-inforcing. i am also running a race with a friend later this year - that external pressure and support definitely helps! also, having something on the calendar helps. i felt like i needed to do something more drastic and more of a long-term commitment so an october race it is.

Re: Do you ever feel like there are so many obstacles to working out?
I almost never feel motivated to work out unless I've already been working out regularly. When I fall off the wagon, it's VERY hard to get back on. I really have to force myself to do it even though I don't want to.
Sometimes I make a point of putting on my workout clothes right after I get home from work, even if I'm not going to have time to work out until after dinner - then when the time comes, I'm way more likely to actually pop in a workout video or get on the treadmill when I'm already dressed and ready, instead of getting too comfortable on the couch and not doing anything.
It also helps me to take classes instead of work out on my own, because then I'm paying for it and have an appointment to show up somewhere at a certain time. I know you said DH works late, but is that something you might be able to do one weekend morning or something?

When I lack motivation, I just don't give myself a choice. I just go to the gym, whether I want to or not. Nine times out of 10, I didn't feel like going, but I feel great afterwards and happy that I did go.

This.
I've never regretted a workout after the fact and I remind myself of that before I begin.
I'm all about schedules, so I do Couch to 5k every other day (30 minute workout) and 30 Day Shred (>25 minute workout) the other days.
Is it possible for you to get up earlier to workout? I HATE early wake ups, so I wait until DH is home and can watch the kids.

Re: Do you ever feel like there are so many obstacles to working out?
I too have to lose 10lbs. by the summer. I don't really lack motivation lately, but I'm a very instant gratification person and when I don't see results I start to feel like it's not worth it. I've been working out consistently for 2 months now and literally have not lost even 1lb. In fact, I've GAINED weight
Having a baby doesnt help matters. I find it very hard to find time in my daily routine to get to the gym. I do it after DS goes to bed, but it's a struggle. And lately, with my knees hurting from running, it's making even that much harder.
I just try to keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end.
