WWYD?

For those that dont know, my background is PCOS/bad eggs/poor responder...blah blah blah....after two failed IVFs (with several cancelled cycles thrown in for good measure) one a BFN one an ectopic-m/c, we conceived DS with PGS (we transferred three chromosomally normal embryoys and got Chat Icon ). We have been TTC #2 and have another two failed IVFs behind us (one doing PGS again and transferring 3 chromosomally normal embryos again). Because I am a poor responder, I typically never have more than 5 or 6 eggs at retrieval and am lucky when half fertilize. I have never had any make it to freeze. This being said, we are nearly at the end of our IF journey as we have just over $10K in insurance money left and it costs $6,500 for IVF at my RE...so really only enough for 1 more IVF.

All day I have been considering PGS again (because it worked and gave me piece of mind considering my elevated chromosomal risk due to my age (about to turn 40) and poor egg quality). The two times I have done PGS, I had to batch my embyos in order to have enough to send out. But PGS is expensive and money we really dont have. We would have to borrow it from my parents or max out a credit card when money is tight because I am a PTSAHM.

Or...we could just do another regular IVF cycle and hope for the bestChat Icon Our RE is on board with transfering as many as make it to transfer (not so sure if we went the PGS route though).

Obviously, we have better odds with the PGS but it is not guaranteed...but better...but 5k out of pocket more expensive.

But then if we do regular IVF, if it doesnt work, I still have half a cycle left (if I dont blow it on a cancelled cycle) and could technically borrow (or max out the credit card) to scrape out an extra cycle...but this is all hypothetical Chat Icon

Am I making any sense? My mind is all jumbled...wwyd?Chat Icon

Re: WWYD?

I'd probably do PGS again, because it worked and you got your miracle.

I'd also try to get pg with me so we can be in the hospital together again!Chat Icon

Re: WWYD?

how many did you transfer when you did pgs and got pregnant with andy?

how many did you transfer on ur reg ivf cycles without pgs?

if it were me i think i would just go and transfer as many as i could without doing the pgs - this is my reasoning:
lets say u get 10 eggs and they fertalize and u send them out for pgs. out of those 10 lets say u have 2 that are good.
same scenario - u have 10 eggs that fertalize. ur dr is willing to have ALL 10 transfered back - theres still those 2 that are good.

but of course it is you that has to be comfortable with your decision..

other than with our first IVF (BFN) we have always transfered three. The most eggs I have gotten (that fertilized) was five (really we only average three or four) so there is no 10 scenario unless we batch two cycles (and I dont even know if I would have enough insurance money to do this).

Re: WWYD?

If you can swing it, I'd do the PGS again. It got you Andy. And it won't waste your time.

Lots of luck! Chat Icon

Re: WWYD?

if your dr is willing to transfer back ALL embryos, i would go the route that would get you the most embryos for your money. if that's possibly 2 cycles, but no PGS, then that's what i would do.
