Formula question!
Hi everyone! This is my first post! We are due in 3 months! I am still not 100% comfortable with breastfeeding, even though I really want to be, so to be safe, with the cost of formula, i want to start stocking up since it has a shelf life of over a year! Does St Charles use Similac? I know every child is different, has anyone had any issues/concerns using that? :)

Re: Formula question!
I wouldn't stock pile just yet. You don't know what kind of formula your baby will respond well to. Some make them gassy, spit up, some babies need soy, etc.
Start saving but don't buy yet.

Re: Formula question!
I was in babies r us yesterday and asked them what their return/exchange policy was on formula and they said within 90 days but if its just an exchange theres no time frame....so with all my coupons i can get similac for .87 each lol similac has many different types of formulas so i felt i was safe to go with that, and if i need to switch types i can just exchange at babies r us. thank you though! :)

Re: Formula question!
Definately don't start stocking up.
We went through 5 formula's with DS by the time he was 3.5 months old.
I wasted $$ in buying extra of each formula.

Re: Formula question!
...but if they told me i would have no problem exchanging the formula, it shouldnt be a problem. i just felt i couldnt pass up .87 Similac formula haha and for whatever reason, i can always donate what I buy.

Re: Formula question!
Was the sale on the formula the Ready to Feed kind? My ped told me that DD was to only have the RTF formula until she was 8 weeks and then I could switch to powder. Some reccommend until they are 4 months old on RTF depending on their gas/reflux issues.

Re: Formula question!
yes it was for the RTF bottles. they are normally $5.87 in babies r us and i have $5 off any similac product, no specific size. I have 20 of those coupons, so i figured i should take advantage of it and they make like 7 different types of similac RTF bottles so i can always exchange to what he needs. am i crazy?

Re: Formula question!
A great tip i learned from here. Since you dont know what formula your baby will be using , since sometimes you may have to change due to gas, reflux etc. Everytime you go tot he store grab a a gift card and set it aside for the formula, for when you will need it.

Honestly...with your due date being 9/4, I think by the time you have the baby, it will be past the 90 days anyway. Also, not sure how much the prices are in BRU for $6.00, but even if you get the 2oz bottles, after a week, you won't be needing the 2 oz bottles anymore....we were finished using them after being home for 1 day.
To answer your original question, yes, St Charles does use Similac.

Re: Formula question!
Those sales happen often. I wouldn't buy it just because you have coupons that are expiring. This from the girl who "caused some drama" on the PG board suggesting people buy diapers in advance. I would never suggest buying formula in advance, no matter the cost.
DD has been using enfamil powder since we had to start supplementing from day 3 or so (and she's been exclusively FF since 6 weeks). We started with the newborn and switched to infant at 3 months. I had friends who had tons of samples of similac they never needed or used who gave it to me and I never used it either (I feel bad, but I didn't know what I'd need back then).
You just really do not know. We've been lucky not to have to switch, but it would just be best for you to hang on and wait IMO. You will get tons more formula checks (I had about $200 worth of similac checks I've given away since we use enfamil).

Re: Formula question!
Generic formula was the best thing ever for us. Target has a ton of varieties including AR, Gentle for gas, etc. Half the price of the name brands. My DD has THRIVED on it. If you read Baby Bargains, they tell you about the federal law that all formulas in the US have to meet the same nutritional guidelines. I didn't want to throw money away on the advertising the name brands do.

We switched from the reg to the sensitive. I say go for it. Like you said you can always exchange if you stick with similac. That's a great price and we did switch on and off from Liquid and powder and she was fine with it. save the coupons and sign up on similac. To get coupons.
