What are your thoughts on stress causing miscarriage

I know I shouldnt think about the "what ifs" but its just got me thinking. The day I got my BFP I found out DH had lost his job (he is still unemployed). This has stressed me out majorly. About a week after that I had a major argument with a client (I work at a veterinary hospital). It was really intense and got my heart racing. Now, I know some Drs will say yes stress can cause miscarriage and others will say no but just wondering your thoughts (and what your Drs think) about this topic.

When I had my miscarriage, I kept thinking what did i do that caused it. Stress is most likely not a factor for your miscarriage. I had genetic testing done on mine and it had double the amount of chromosomes it should have. There is nothing I could have done to prevent that from happening. In the same respects, you being stressed probably was not the cause of yours. I am so sorry for what you are going through.

My drs said most miscarriages are chromosonal. They said there is nothing I did, ate or drank that would have caused it. When I was of pg with ds I asked how stress would effect the baby. The dr said it doesn't. Hope that helps a little.

I think trying to maintain a relatively stress-free environment while you're pregnant is a good idea. Is it practical? ... Probably not. We are all people who go about our daily lives and are guaranteed to encounter stress. I think it's good to focus on better ways to handle it. Ask yourself if whatever is stressing you out at the time is really worth it. Most of the time, I bet your answer will be no.

To answer your question though, I don't think stress can cause a miscarriage. Maybe a VERY EXTREME situation ... like think the season finale of Greys Anatomy last year Chat Icon .. Who knows............... but normal stress that you have to expect to encounter in the 9 months of pregnancy.. I doubt it. Besides, think of all the cave ladies who stressed about what animal they would slaughter to get their next meal Chat Icon ... and they still managed to carry a pregnancy!

Re: What are your thoughts on stress causing miscarriage

I think about this a lot. The weekend before I went to the ER was VERY stressful for me. I can't really go into it on a public site, but it had to do with a really bad fight with a drunken, pill popping member of my family who tried to punch me in the stomach.
Even with that said, I don't think it contributed much to my mc, just a coincidence. Trying to convince my DH that it had nothing to do with it, is another story.
