Re: ticks
My dogs are on frontline but I hear that often you will still find live ticks on them....so who knows how well it works.

Re: ticks
Doesn't Frontline kill from the inside out? I thought I read that the pesticide is absorbed into the dog's skin and that once a tick bites it, it will be poisoned and die.
If that's true, just having them on the dog's body doesn't mean it's not working. If they're latched on and have to be detached, yea, I'd say it wasn't a great preventative.

Frontline says it takes 48 hrs to kill a tick on a dog...but unfortunately by that time, they could have contracted Lyme or other disease. But I still figure its better than nothing.

Re: ticks
I don't really understand how hey work. I saw a commercial for advantix (i think- the one with the cute puppy at camp). It said it kills ticks and frontline doesn't... but my vet recommended frontline and thats what I've used in the past.

Frontline and Advantix both kill adult ticks. But Frontline kills all tick stages, whereas Advantix does not.
I think what you are referring to is Advantix REPELS ticks and fleas, whereas Frontline is NOT a repellant.
At least with Frontline, it kills various stages of flea and tick but Advantix only kills adults and repels them, but doesnt kill other stages.

Re: ticks
Thanks for clarifying. We go the repellent route and as an added assurance, check them head to tail whenever we've been somewhere where ticks are a danger. It's harder on Brinkley since his coat is so much thicker, so we have to pay much closer attention.
