how do i teach dd how to use the straw cup????

trying to teach my DD how to use the straw cup and its not working out great. she is currently using the tommy tippy trainer cup with the silicone tip anbd does great.

Straw cup -- Not so much.

how did you "TEACH" your children how to suck from the straw???

All she wants to do is chew it.

try this cup, it worked wonders on DS, he learned in a matter of hours after months of my trying everything

I agree with the playtex little gripper !! this was the first cup I tried with DS and within a week he was drinking out of it himself at just ovef 6 months old. The only "teaching" I had to do was getting him to realize that he had to keep sucking or the water would go back down. I would keep it squeezed up so he wouldn't get annoyed.

Our feeding therapist suggested that Playtex cup, also. She told us to squeeze the water up into the straw, and then squeeze it into their mouths when they put their lips around it the right way. It didn't take DD long to figure it out. DS is still struggling with it, though!

If you give juice, take a Motts tots juicebox (its half juice/half water) and squeeze the juicebox. My DD realized immediately that she had to suck to get the juice out from just a squeeze of it into her mouith.

my SIL showed me a way to teach our Emma and she had been able to do it since she was about 9 or so months old.

get a REGULAR straw (not a sippy straw) - one that you would use.

using water (or any beverage), get some of it to go into the straw (by dipping into the beverage, going to use water from now on).

using your finger tip, stop up the straw so that some of the water stays in the straw.

put it into DC's mouth and keep your finger on the other end. if DC doesn't 'suck' right away
...let a tiny bit of the water out of the straw by removing your finger tip and putting it back...(so DC can see that there is something IN the straw).

repeat until DC starts 'sucking' it out of the straw...

it took about 5-6 times of me doing this and Em got it down cold!

I started a 6m with a regular straw and after a few days she could drink out of anything!
