What have others out there done when the Dr. says IVF is the only option but the money is not available?
I just finished my 7th round of IUI (1 no med, 5 clomid, 1 folastim). The Dr. is saying IVF is what we need (problem on my husbands side) however, we don't have the money and I don't feel I want to start our childs life with debt. I believe God has promised us a child but am having a really hard time with each month of disappointment. My husband works for a catholic hospital which does not believe in IVF so they will not cover it and I work for a small buisness which can not get a ryder because we are less than 50 employees. I even tried to pick up insurance as an independent contractor but no company will cover IVF. Has anyone been in this positon?

I really don't know anything about it, but I've heard other ladies on the board talk about a NYS IVF Grant. You may be able to get a cycle paid for. Search on these boards and online, you are sure to find something. Good luck.
I did 6 IUIs myself and got pregnant on my first IVF.

I don't even know if you have one, but as a last resort you could always take from your 401k? Definitely not ideal, but it is still a thought. Lots of luck and

I was able to get a very low interest loan (1.5%, I think) as long as we paid it off in 18 months. At the time I did it, it was through Capitol One Healthcare Loans, but I don't think they offer it anymore. My doctors office said another bank offers a similar program, but I'm not sure which one.
I did a shared risk program where you pay an upfront set cost for 3 fresh & 3 frozen cycles. If you don't get pregnant at all you get back 80%. If it works the first time, you wind up paying too much. If you need more then one cycle, it winds up being less money that paying for each cycle separately.

Forgive me but I don't know what DH is. We have had my husband to a urologist and he had surgery but we have not seen any increase yet. As for me they put me through every test under the sun and I am fine. NYS grants are hard because DR's never got what was promised them from the state last year so they are not taking anymore this year and we do not fit in the requirement for studies because im 34.

This is what I did. Worth every penny of the 12,000 we spent. My opinion. Don't worry about debt. You'll catch up, there is only so long you can have a child. Other options:
NYS grant-ask your clinic Financing on a CC-look for zero or very low interest Check out care.com-not sure if they do IVF but worth a shot.
Good luck
ETA: your DH can try herbs and acupuncture. There is tons of info on the web. Just google his issue with natural cures

DH is short for Dear Husband (your hubby in other words)
We were in the same boat as you, and after 7 iui's we managed to qualify for a drug trial study that my RE's office was participating in. I know that they run studies every so often, so its definitely worth asking about. If your dr isn't participating, then maybe its worth looking around to find another RE who is doing one at the moment? Not sure what your age has to do with it.. from what i know the age requirement varies from study to study We happened to get pregnant on our own the month before the study was to start so didn't actually do it
We had considered taking loans out, or having our parents help out with the cost, but considering it can be upwards of $9-12K per cycle, its a big undertaking. Maybe your RE can suggest a different alternative since he knows that IVF is not affordable right now? good luck!
Good luck!

If your only issues are male factor you can try supplements to fix them. I have a list of vitmains and supplements that I put DH on after poor SA's and within 5 months his numbers went from pretty poor to well above average. Let me know if you want the list.
You can try them for a few months have him retested and then try iui's again.

I have my hubby on many supplements but would love to see your list to see if there is something he is not taking.
Thanks

My DS was and still is taking Zinc and a Centrum vitamin. The Zinc he would take every other day until the week I was ovulating. Then he would take it every day that week. When he went to the urologist he had a low sperm count. Once he started taking the Zinc, the count tripled (and more after the 3rd round of IUI) and the quality was much better.
