Couple questions about central A/c
Do you need permits for central A/C? Does it make your taxes go up? If so, how much?

Yes you need a permit - it will increase the taxes because it increases the value of your home.
I don't know how much.

We're looking into it too.
From this article: http://www.nytaxcut.com/newsdayhelp.html, Central air conditioning, for example, might increase an assessment by 50 cents a square foot in some places, more or less in others, it looks like it may slightly increase your property taxes.
However, you are also entitled to Federal Tax Credits, http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=tax_credits.tx_index

There is a lot in terms of credits. We will be getting back quite a bit. If you ask my DH, it is worth every penny in increased taxes rather than to listen to be b*tch about the heat for the next 25-30 summers.

Re: Couple questions about central A/c
There was a small permit that the installers filed with out town, basically some info with a sketch on where the compressor unit is.
I have no idea if it increased our taxes. I never noticed!
