Baptism
Did you/will you get the information from your church before baby is born or wait until after? I like to plan and was thinking of calling the church now, but I didn't know if that was too soon. Just wanted to get any information and see what dates they have it, etc.
Also, Sept/Oct girls: when are you planning on having the baptism?
I wish I could do a backyard party after, but I figure I'll have it when she is around 3 months, so it will be too cold outside. 3 months will be in December, and I dont know if that's too crazy of a time with Christmas!

Re: Baptism
I am due September 1st and I plan on doing the christening when is 2.5 - 3 months. So it will definitely be cold outside. I don't know when we are supposed to contact the church...good question. I think we are going to try to keep our party on the smaller side.

Re: Baptism
as a btdt mom - i would contact the church now - they usually only give the babtism class once a month and i think it would beeasier to attend the class prior to the baby being born - my parents watched my son while my dh and i attended the class
also most churched won't let you have the date officially until you take the class
i was a sept mom and my son was babtized at 2 months exactly -the sunday before thanksgiving. I was trying to avoid the holidays - we had the party at my parents country club

Thanks! I will call today and ask the church. That's a good idea about having it before the holidays. i just figure Dec will be a tough month for everyone. November might make more sense...or January after the holidays. Thank you :)

Re: Baptism
I plan on going to see the Priest over the summer and talking with him. I want to see how it works in our church, can we have a private christening etc.
I am due Oct 3rd but want to wait until March/April bc I would like the weather to be nice.
We are also trying to decide whether we are going to have a big blow out or a more simple christening. Simple would be about 60 pple ANYWAY

Re: Baptism
I'm due in July and in May I already spoke to our priest about the baptism and scheduled a date. I wanted to book a party and the place seemed to be filling up quickly, so I took care of it before the baby was born. Also, I think it was good because we plan on taking the baptism class before the baby arrives.

Re: Baptism
Our church doesn't book anything until after the baby is born. It's so frustrating.
We're hoping to do it when the baby will be 9-11 weeks old.

I just called my church. The deacon is going to call me back to give me the information. I'm due 9/15. I'd just call and see what they say.

Re: Baptism
I called as well the woman who I spoke to said a Deacon or a Priest would call me and set something up. She also said we would have to take a class on a Monday night so it's good that we called early. She said a lot of people like to take the class before the baby comes.

Re: Baptism
I'm due in October and plan on calling next week. I'd love to have an outdoor party, but don't want to wait till the craziness of May/June. I'm pretty sure they won't due baptisms during Advent or Lent so we are looking at early Feb (after the superbowl) or late April and doing it in a restaurant.

Re: Baptism
Planned mine with my church after DS was born, they only needed a couple of weeks notice. They did them every 1,2,3rd Sunday of the month...so they told me whenever I wanted to, they were ready.

Re: Baptism
My church requests we go 3 months before the baby is born so we already when and penciled in our names for October. I prefer to have it when the baby is 3 months old. I think every church is different though.

Re: Baptism
probably have it around christmas- my husband's sister lives in OR and she will probably be the godmother... it will be easier for her to be there if it's during the holidays. if not, i wouldn't mind putting it off until the spring!
