Disney at 6 years old?

Are we going to need a stroller? One is 50 lbs and the other is over 50 lbs. Renting one for the week says under 100 total. We have not used our stroller since they were 4.5 and they did fine at the zoo in April but we are going in August which is brutal.

Renting from Disney each day seems so expensive.

We went last November when Jacob was 5. We did not use a stroller for him. He did fine... I think he was so enthralled with the Disney experience walking did not matter.

We just went and only planned on renting one for the 4 yo...but the 6 yo wanted one too and it did make things easier, so we did two. You can always play it by ear and try walking.

Can't really answer your question because we haven't been to disney yet.

I did want to add this site though. I was chatting with a mom from karate class and she has a 4 and 6 year old and she went over spring break. She rented the city mini from this site and loved the whole process.

She said it was waiting for her in her room and when they left she just brought it down to the front desk.

I am not sure if you will need one but we rented one from Magic Strollers (the city mini double) and it was the best thing we ever did. It was clean, delivered to our hotel, picked up from hotel, no problems at all and much cheaper than the park strollers.

No, I don't think a 6 year old needs a stroller at Disney.

Actually just realized they will still be 5, woops.

The citi mini holds 100 lbs and combined they are more then that so I wasn't sure if it would not or they would be uncomfy.

I did read that the length of stay that you purchase will not expire,. so if you pay for all 7 days and then only use it 3 days you get to use the rest on your next visit. Wonder if I can give them to someone else then?

See, now my 5yo , though he walked 85% of the time definately needed that stroller towards the end of the day....He passed out in it more than once...

The wagon would have worked as well that they rent...You could always forego it and rent one i(f there are any left,) if you need it

Kevin used a stroller when we went in December. He was a moth or so shy of 6 and about 48lbs or so. We also would leave the house early and not return until bedtime so he was on the move all day and he isn't one who likes to walk to begin with. I couldn't imagine not having it. I brought tmy double MacLaren and his side is definitely dipping but we needed it. (Alex was only 3 and 38lbs so we were ok on his side.)

We went last Aug with DDs who were 5 and 3 at the time. We rented a double stroller and it was totally worth it. It is very hot, and we were out walking from 9-6 most days. My 5yo DD needed a break at times, also it helped us move faster when we needed to while the kids rested.

Re: Disney at 6 years old?

I rented from Orlando Strollers for my 6and 4 year old in September. There is NO WAY with the extreme heat and humidity they would have made it without it. The sun shade was a godsend. We got the Citi Mini, but our combined weight was under 100 lbs, but probably close to it. It was a dream to push.

It was also helpful for parades and stuff b/c they had a ready made seat. My kids don't have great stamina though, and they are really affected when it is hot. So, for us it was worth every single penny.

We went last summer in August and my nieces used strollers (3 and 5.5 at the time). They both walked a lot BUT it was so brutally hot and at points it was so crowded that we made the older one sit in the stroller so we could navigate the crowds easier.

At night it was easier too...we like to do the parks til close and the late magic hours so she could stay and wait on the lines but would relax while we walked to each attraction.

There were a lot of us so no double stroller -- two single McClarens and we all took turns pushing them around.

Re: Disney at 6 years old?

We drove down to Disney this past spring so we brought the stroller for my 60lb five year old son. I'm so glad we did! We were on our feet all day walking and he got very tired. We went pretty much all day, though, if you go to the parks for just a few hours you may not need one.

We went last August. It was hot but we managed. My boys were 5 and 3. We only bought our single Maclaren. I own a City Mini Double but decided to leave it at home. I was amazed but my 3 year old preferred to walk over using the stroller. I figured that if it was too much walking for the 5 year, I would rent one at the park.

Isn't it sort of liberating to be stroller free at Disney! Not having to worry about parking the stroller, coming out to it being moved around by the cast members, and not having to manuever through crowds!
