Black Tie Wedding! (now with a picture of the dress I want to wear)
What would you wear if the invite stated Black tie, your dh is in the bridal party, and the wedding is at New Hyde Park Inn? I really don't want to wear a long gown...would a short dress be appropriate??
ETA:
Here's the deal with this wedding...I didn't realize it was black tie until my dh spoke with the future groom. I didn't see it on the invite. So, I went to Nordstrom Rack prior to knowing about it being black tie and bought this dress. I am not sure if what I bought is going to be fancy enough for a black tie affair. I can always buy a new dress, but really loved the way this looked on (the picture really doesn't do it much justice). I have steel gray Calvin Klein heels and will probably wear my hair up. What do you guys think?
Sorry the pics are so small..I never understood how to resize pictures correctly on LIF's. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Black Tie Wedding!
I had a black tie wedding in the Spring and there were several women that wore fancy, short dresses. I think you're fine as long as it's dressy enough.

Re: Black Tie Wedding!
I personally would wear a long gown. I've been to many black tie events and most people do (at least the events I've been to). A tux is dressier than a suit, which makes me think a gown is fancier than a cocktail dress..IMHO

Re: Black Tie Wedding! (now with a picture of the dress I want to wear)
Honestly, I went to a black tie wedding at the Boathouse and I was always under the impression that I needed to wear a gown for black tie. I can tell you that aside from the bridal party, I was in the minority wearing a gown...most women were wearing black cocktail dresses.
As for the dress you posted...I think you can get away with it. But personally, I'd wear a gown if my DH was in the BP. Sorry!

If DH is in the BP, can't you ask the bride?

I personally would wear a long gown. I love getting dressed up and I feel like a long gown is always more formal looking than a short cocktail dress.

Re: Black Tie Wedding! (now with a picture of the dress I want to wear)
I think the dress is fine....I've been to a few black tie weddings, and I have never one a gown, always short cocktail dresses. And at all those weddings, I'd say maybe the most I ever saw was 1 or 2 women in gowns.
Edited to say I just realized my avatar is from one of those weddings. My ex-FH was actually in the BP too. I know you can't really see the dress, but it was a cocktail dress.

I think the dress you posted is lovely, and the way you've described your look for the wedding sounds gorgeous and absolutely appropriate for the occassion.

I think the dress is definitely appropriate. I went to a black tie wedding last summer at Oheka and I'd say there were more people in short dresses than long.
