Chemical or Ectopic?

Anyone have any experience with ectopic pregnancies?

I had my third beta today.

16 DPO: 27
18 DPO: 38
21 DPO: 58

My RE wants me to come in again on Wednesday. . .he said he wants to continue to monitor it to make sure it isn't an ectopic pregnancy.

I think word ectopic just made me

Would chemical pregnancies continue to rise past 21 DPO? What are the signs of ectopic pregnancies? I'm not in any pain. . .

well 14 dpo is when you test and that would be 4 weeks preg so, 21 dpo is 5 week preg. (Sorry typing out loud)

Yes, from my experience that can still be a chemical.

I had a chemical last oct where my beta rose then dropped but then starting rising again and went up to 1270.

Thanks girls. Out of the two options, I'm obviously hoping this is a chemical and I'll be able to move on from this soon.

i've had both a chemical and an ectopic. for my chemical, i had a beta of 11 that just dropped to 0. for the ectopic, the numbers were all over the place, they would rise then fall then rise. my dr at the time didn't think it was ectopic b/c the numbers weren't super high but in the end, she was wrong. i'm sure you're RE will monitor you closely and figure out what's going on. if you have any questions at all, i'm happy to answer. i'm so sorry you have to go through this

I had a chemical last week. My numbers only went up to 7 and then dropped to 0.

My experience with an ectopic was that my beta rose normally after the first two, then went down, then went back up. That was the first indication to my RE that it was a potential ectopic.

When I heard it was an ectopic I freaked out. I was so worried to do anything thinking my tube was going to rupture. I called the office and told them I was freaking out. They basically told me that a tubal rupture wouldn't happen unless my beta was 3000+. That calmed me down since my beta never rose above 250.

I would just make sure your doctor monitors you closely until they can make a determination. If you have any questions just shoot me a FM.

i didnt get a beta until i was 5 weeks... and my beta was only rising 200, then 300... thats the point where i got the methotrexate...

I didnt experience pain until after my beta was in the 100s...

i think for you its too early to detect because of how low your #s are

With numbers like that it looks like it is a chemical.....

Ectopic pregnancies usually start out with higher betas and higher jumps....

My first pregnancy my first beta was 30 (at 14dpo)...then it doubled to 60 at 16dpo...then went up to 90 at 18dpo ...then jumped to about 200 (I was spotting/had light bleeding at that point)....because beta kept going up like that they didnt want to rule out ectopic..so they send me to the hospital for a detailed sono (you cant see anything until your beta is over 1000)...

Since they couldnt see anything and my numbers were still going up they wanted me to take the shot....I refused and wanted to wait....I was still about 6.5 weeks pregnant....so they scheduled me for a D&C to remove anything that was in the uterus......the day before my D&C I started bleeding very heavy (with cramps) and passed what looked like a tiny fetus sac.....the next day my beta went down half and within few days it went to zero.....I bled for a week...

Since your numbers are so low I suspect you will start bleeding soon and the pregnancy will dissolve on its own....

did they happen to check your progesterone too? if you aren't on supplements, a low progesterone is an indication of ectopic as well.

i had 2 ectopics. one, the numbers rose very slow and the second, they went down and back up again. i experienced bleeding with the first, similar to AF but lighter. my lining shed and when they took a sono, my lining was very thin. the second i was on progesterone so i didn't bleed and my lining stayed intact. i didn't have any pain until i was about 6 weeks along.

I am sorry you have to deal with all of this. I had a chemical last summer and at 7 weeks my numbers only rose to about 1,000. Good luck with everything

I had an ectopic years ago. My beta was only at 9 and was rising very slowly - I also had bleeding like AF. They monitored me for a couple of weeks and also did a sono where they didn't see anything. I was approximately 7-8 weeks along when they gave me the methotrexate shot. I never had any pain.

Thanks girls. I think Af started this afternoon, so I am hoping that means it was chemical. I never thought Id be happy to see her at this stage in the game But, time to move on!
