Those that when from IUI to IVF
What made you switch from IUI to IVF?
Was it the number of failed IUI's, was it age...?
Thanks

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
for me it was difficult for me to produce a good quantity of eggs for IUI/TI cycles. i have PCOS and with injectable meds i would produce either too few or too many eggs so it was safer to go to IVF where i could fully stim and then control how many embryos go back in. i did 7 medicated cycles before switching to IVF - out of the 7 i had two BFPs which were chemical, 1 anovulatory cycle (clomid), 1 hyperstimulated cycle, and the rest were BFN.
good luck!

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
Well for me it was A few different things. We did 4 failed iui cycles and most of our issue aree man factor. My husband count was always so low with the iui but we wanted to give iui's a try before jumping ivf. And after having the 4 failed cycles we agreed with our doctor that it wasn't going to work for us.

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
I was 34 when I made the jump of IUI to IVF..
I had 3 failed IUIs and was successful with my first IVF and I am now 30 weeks pg!!
I had unexplained IF and my insurance covered it so we switched given I wasn't getting any younger.
I was also able to freeze 9 embryos from my IVF cycle

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
Mine was a # of failed iuis. I got pregnant on my 4th iui (but first injectable cycle). I had a miscarriage at 10 wks. We tried 3 more iuis. We were so sure it would happen again on the next iui, but nope. By this point, a year had passed.
My RE recommended we move onto IVF. We are unexplained IF and I am 31. I got pregnant from that IVF and am now almost 16w pregnant with . I also have 6 frozen for the future.
IVF increases your chances so much more and at that point I was done. I just wanted to be pregnant already and I was frustrated. I knew I was ready to start. GL!!!

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
For me it was failed iui's and being able to rule out embryo quality as an issue for my miscarriages, infertility, etc. With IVF your embryos are graded so you know how what you are putting back. Having said that, after 4 failed IVFs, I'm back to IUI. IMO, you have to be ready for IVF. Body, mind, etc. It's not a walk in the park, more like a triathlon!
Good Luck!

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
I got pregnant on my 3rd IUI and had a loss at 17wks ..... then tried 3 more IUIs and had a chemical on my 3rd.
We mainly moved onto IVF as a means to move forward hoping I'd get pregnant faster that way. Since it's such a controlled process, we figured we could narrow down the issues keeping me from getting pregnant with 5 follies per IUI! On my first IVF cycle out of 35 follicles, 9 had eggs. It's possible I was doing IUIs with empty follicles.
I got pregnant from my first IVF cycle with triplets (2 embryos implanted and 1 split). I lost all of them though.. .so we're in the process of doing our 2nd IVF now.
I'm very happy I moved on when we did .. though unfortunately it hasn't helped me to move on from my first loss at all, since I ended up losing 3 more babies at once

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
I'm about to make the jump to IVF. I've had 4 IUIs, and the last two resulted in unsuccessful pregnancies very early on. After TTC for two years, DH and I are impatient to move forward. I also have a chromosomal abnormality which was found to cause my last m/c, so IVF is the better route to go for us. We're just taking a little break before starting.

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
my insurance in CT only covers 3 iuis.
I will move to ivf if the third iui (first injectible) does not work.

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
I wasn't producing any mature eggs and DH morphology was 0%. There was little to no chance getting pregnant without IVF

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
For us it was several factors. We did 3 IUI's with the third resulting in an ectopic pregnancy. We did another 4 IUI's after that all resulting in BFN's. Each IUI, my DH's counts got worse and worse. Right around the time we started discussing IVF's, DH got a new job which covered two IVF cycles - so for us it was a no brainer - we were moving on. Even if we didn't get the insurance coverage, we would have still done the IVF. We were already 2 years into the TTC process - a year of that with a RE - so it was time to try something different.
Good luck to you

Re: Those that when from IUI to IVF
Thanks you all so much for sharing your stories with me. I'm going in on Friday and will be discussing this with my dr.
A little background on me: Have been TTC#2 for a little over two years now. We started trying right after we got the go ahead to after my daughter was born. I had 2 back to back MC and then started seeing an RE. After all the testing, we moved onto IUI's. The first two failed. The third one we got a BFP, only to loss the baby around 7 1/2 weeks. I'm am going to pray this 4th IUI (which should be around monday) works, but if it doesn't, I think I'm ready to move on. My insurance doesn't cover the entire cost, but most of it will be. I only have 3 IVF's though. So I will pray this works.
Again, thank you so much for listening and sharing your stories with me.
