Summer vacation bedtime
Does bedtime change for your kiddos over summer vacation? Our 4 and 5 year old's bedtime is 8:00pm while school is in session. This time of year, it's harder to get them in bed on time with it still being somewhat light outside. Over summer vacation, we were considering bumping their bedtime to 9:00 until close to when school starts up again. Not sure what to do... :)

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
We just go with the flow but my kids will sleep later if they go to bed later so they aren't losing sleep. That's the only reason I don't enforce a bedtime in the summer.

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
Yes, most of the summer, because we still have to leave the house around 8am for camp/work! Makes it much easier when school starts again

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
I like DD to stay up a little later in the summer because we will go to nighttime concerts in the parks, or to friends' for BBQs, etc. This way she doesn't turn into a beast if she is up later than usual.

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
It doesn't really change. My kids wake up the same time no matter what time they go to bed so it's just easier for me if they aren't cranky beasts all summer long.

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
We don't have summer bed times either. There are some night we go down to the local pool after dinner and stay until it closes at 9. There are also a ton of things we take them too and we just go with the flow. They will be in a day recreation "camp" that goes from 9-3 each day, so they need to be up by at least 8 during the week.

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
During school, they go to bed at 8:30pm. Since school has been out, we let them watch a DVD in their room until 9pm. We still have our normal work schedule, so that doesn't really change. DS#1 is going to day camp at my younger son's daycare.

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
It will probably remain somewhat the same....unless we are out and doing something.
She is going to camp and actually leaving earlier in the AM than she would for school...

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
They will be in bed by 9, normally we try to get them in by 8 during school but don't always succeed at this. I don't have to feed them or dress them in the summer so they can wake up at 8:30 if they wanted to. During school they need to be up by 8 the latest in order to get out the door.

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
No set bedtime here in the summer. He goes to bed by 8:30 during the school year. As others have said, if we are doing something late, I like that he can stay up without getting cranky. Normally, he still in bed by about 9:00-9:30 anyway. I do need some grown up time!

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
My 5 year old goes to bed between 7-7:30 during the school year, but over the summer, I just roll with whatever is going on that evening. Most nights she's in bed around 8:30, sometimes 9. But then she sleeps later in the morning.

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
It will stay the same, if not earlier I hope, except on the weekends! She has to be in camp earlier than school so she needs to be up early.

Re: Summer vacation bedtime
Mine go to bed at 8 (5 & 7 yr olds) & 8:30 (8 yrs) and pretty strictly enforced. I will move it back to 8:30 & 9 oclock in the summer but much more loosely enforced.
