If you had GD with your first PG... (ETA another ?).

Did you end up having it again this time around?

I had GD when I was pregnant with DS but never needed insulin (just modified diet). My OB said I'm at a higher risk of getting again this time around. Was curious if there are any moms that DIDN'T have GD the next pregnancy?

ETA: If you didn't get it the second time around, did you take any precautions before the test (like modify your diet)?

I got it with my last pg and I don't know about this one yet. I needed insulin.

My cousin had it with one pregnancy but not the other. She did not need insulin.

Did your dr. advise you to do anything NOW to prevent it? I'm so scared Chat Icon

I had it, and am expecting it again. Way too early in my pregnancy to say, but I am at risk. I hope this doesnt come off the wrong way, but GD was a good thing for me. I only had to eat a special diet to get my sugar in line, but I wound up loosing so much weight (body fat)! I looked great PP! Also, I had a sono every week, and it just reassuremed me he was OK.

So, as sick as it seems, I am hoping I do have it again, b/c then I know I need the diet and not to go to heck w/ myself b/c I am eating for two!

I didn't lose too much because I lived on peanut butter lol!

Would you mind posting what you would eat in a typical day?

He said I would get tested at about 16 weeks and then again at 24. I asked him if I should start with the same modified diet now just as a precaution and he said it couldn't hurt. I have yet to start Chat Icon

I am 100% with you about losing weight and looking good! I ended up only gaining 13lbs my last pregnancy because of the GD. The diet I didn't mind, it was just the testing my blood daily that got really annoying!

For me, a typical day consisted of:

Breakfast:
Omelette, either with a piece of whole wheat toast or wrap
Caffeine-free tea

Morning Snack (one of the following):
pistachios (or other nuts)
string cheese
hummus with veggies

Lunch:
grilled chicken with side of grilled veggies
salad
leftovers from night before

Dinner:
Baked fish
Grilled or roasted chicken
Steak salad
with veggies on the side or mashed cauliflower

Dessert:
5 saltines with cream cheese
hummus and veggies
string cheese

Re: If you had GD with your first PG....

nope! They tested me a million times because DS was so big.

I had GD with DD and she was 8.7lbs.

I didn't have it with DS and he was 10.1lbs 3 weeks early. Chat Icon

I have 3 kids. I had GD with my 1st pregnancy and not with the next 2. I did fail the 1 hour with the 2nd son but passed the 3 hour. With my 3rd - didn't even fail the 1 hour.

I had diet controlled last time and got it again this time. I was also 10lbs heavier this time. But it's been easier to control this time...

Re: If you had GD with your first PG... (ETA another ?).

I had it with my first pregnancy (stillborn). My second I was borderline and they made me test still. This one, I have it full blown. As with first pregnancy, so far just modifying my diet.
