Having a party at a catering hall verse Vfw type hall
I called a bunch of places today for dd's christening and coral house is the cheapest at around $47 pp which includes tax and service charge. I will probably have anywhere from 75-100 people. Do you think going this route will be about the same in relation to price to renting out a Vfw getting food, beer, wine, etc on my own?

I think it may be a little cheaper to do it yourself but much easier at Coral House. Was Coral House the best price you could get? Where did you call? I'm asking because I am looking at possible places for my daughter's first birthday. My daughter's birthday is Christmas so if we don't do it at home, we'd do it obviously no on her birthday but in December. When is your child's birthday?

Re: Having a party at a catering hall verse Vfw type hall
I would call around VFW type halls and see how much they cost. Then I would call a place you would have cater the food and see how much they charge. It might be cheaper if you rent a VFW type place and have the food catered. Some of those types of halls also include wine and beer. It is worth researching. I rented out a place in Brooklyn and it included beer and wine and I just catered the food and it came out cheaper then what you would be paying at the Coral House.

I just had my DS's first birthday at a VFW and in the end it probably cost more than at a catering hall. And it was ten times more work to do it at a VFW.

DD christening was at the rec center we catered the food & bought some decorations & hired a cookie monster character to come for a hour. We had about 60-65ppl attend. With everything (hall, food, alchool, cake, decor, favors) we spent a little under 2000.

Re: Having a party at a catering hall verse Vfw type hall
VFW Hall is much cheaper or at least from what I researched. I think we're saving a few hundred dollars going through a hall than a restaurant. I can't decorate the hall too much so that will save me some money and may not be doing any type of ent since I don't have a ton of young kids coming. I think it all depends on what you're spending money on in this type of situation.

Re: Having a party at a catering hall verse Vfw type hall
I had my DD's christening at Lily flannagans in Babylon they have a catering room and they charged $19.95 per person. I think if you look into having it at a place like that it would be cheaper then the coral house and just as nice and no work!!
where do you live I may have some suggestions for you.

Re: Having a party at a catering hall verse Vfw type hall
We had DD's first b-day at the VFW in Oceanside. It was great. All we had to do was decorate. They had a specific company cater and I paid extra for drinks. I believe I paid 24 pp for food, wine and beer....I think full bar was 26-27 pp. The food was great and I had a great experience.
