Anyone following South Beach?

I have been trying to lose weight for 2 years. I work out 4-6 days a week and I have been trying to follow WW. I've lost 20lbs and kept it off but I keep yo-yoing up 5 down 5. I have ALOT of weight to lose and my body isn't cooperating.
I swear I am not sitting with pints of ice cream expecting to lose. I rarely drink alcohol. I try not to buy tons of crap. And nothing is working.
I'm starting to think that my metabolism is just effed from years of up and down and maybe I really can't tolerate any bad carbs and/or sugars. So my DH and I committed to doing South Beach together.
I know WW works but for some reason it's not working for me so here I go with this. I want to lose weight. I want to look and feel good about myself.

Re: Anyone following South Beach?

I did South Beach right before my wedding and have been doing a modified version recently.

I love it (well not love it, but love what it does) and it really works if you stick to it.

The first 2 weeks are tough because you can't have any carbs or sugars (even fruit) and then after that you slowly start to incorporate good carbs back in, little by little.

You will have the most weight loss in the beginning and then it tapers off to 1-2 lbs a week, but I think it teaches you healthy eating because you are eating mostly veggies and lean proteins.

The tough part is that breakfast is pretty much eggs/egg whites every day.

I did it towards the end of last year. It def works but it isn't easy, especially for a carbaholic like me! Chat Icon

The first two weeks made me feel really weak by lunchtime. The secret I found was beans. Then I went to London for biz for a week and that's what killed it. I really tried to stick to it but it was impossible! That's when I realized that (IMO) it is not a realistic plan that can be followed in the long term.

Re: Anyone following South Beach?

I did it 7 years ago and lost 30 lbs. Kept it all off. I sort of did a modified plan a few years ago and lost 10 more lbs. I have gained those back since I went off it. Now I'm doing it again because I'd like to lose another 30 lbs and finally reach my goal weight.

I eat a lot of eggs in the morning and salads for lunch. I find that once I go off, I gain about 5-8 lbs back, but after that I can maintain my weight loss as long as I watch what I eat.

After phase 1 do you do anything besides eggs for breakfast?
Is oatmeal or a high fiber/low sugar cereal do able?

This is a great web site for recipes. I am doing a chicken curry bake tonight with a salad.

Re: Anyone following South Beach?

My DH did it a few times and lost a lot of weight in those first 2 weeks.
The Phase 1 is rough though- not many options on what to eat.
But as you move on to other phases, you get so much more variety.

Regular (not instant) oatmeal is ok, and high fiber cereals are Ok (like fiber one), but I don't think something like cheerios is allowed.

You also have to remember that you start off only being allowed 1 starch daily when you start stage 2, so if you use it for breakfast, you're done with carbs for the rest of the day.

You can slowly incorporate 1-2 additional starches for a max of 3/day depending on how your weight loss is going.

I'd rather save my carb for lunch or dinner, so I can have a whole wheat wrap or a little brown rice.

Good to know.
I wouldn't need it every day but OMG some days you just need something besides eggs so I'd gladly give up a starch the rest of the day to be able to not have eggs for breakfast some days.

I'm going to make a couple of Fritattas this weekend to have.

So far I'm going well. Only 3 days in. I took 2 bites of my kid's churro today without thinking.
Chat Icon I am just so used to doing that on auto pilot. Anyway not going to let that ruin the day. Have a yummy grilled dinner planned.
